Carolina’s is a true staple in the OG South Phoenix neighborhood!! a definite must-visit!
Their tortillas are made fresh daily, and you can absolutely taste the difference. The burritos are huge, packed with flavor, and very reasonably priced for the portion size. If you’re feeding a big appetite, this is the spot.

One of my favorite things is that you can buy their tortillas by the dozen. They’re the oversized kind we call “sobaqueras” in Sonora, named for their size and the traditional way they’re made. They’re perfect for making your own burritos at home.

Personally, I prefer the green chile over the red. The red chile felt like it was missing a bit of flavor for my taste, but that doesn’t take away from how much I support this place. Carolina’s has been part of our community for years. If you grew up in Phoenix in the ’90s, this spot hits you with pure nostalgia the smell of fresh flour tortillas, just like the ones your mom or abuelita used to make.

Let’s keep it low key… IYKYK

First time here.
I ordered the Carne asada burrito and a dozen fresh made tortillas.
The burrito was delicious and massive. The pack of tortillas were still warm.
The staff was friendly and efficient. I took it to go but would eat on site.

Very good food. We went at 10:00 AM for breakfast burritos (breakfast foods available until 10:30) but they wouldn’t make us a chorizo/eggs breakfast burrito because breakfast time was “almost over”. The clerk wasn’t very kind about it. However, you could order a chorizo burrito from the lunch menu, but no eggs in it, so it was hard to understand why no chorizo breakfast burrito… The food tasted very good, clean but bare bones dining area (think white walls, concrete floor, folding tables and chairs). Looks ghetto outside, maybe a scary part of town. But they get a lot of business because they’ve been there for so long and the food is good.

This place was highly recommended by the folks at the FBO at LAS. The food was good and the business was brisk. Very plain decor, but I liked the place!

Really Good food. Not much to look at, cafeteria style tables inside. Good service. Seems like a popular place.

The enchiladas are fantastic. I have had several different varieties now and I have always devoured them. The staff are always friendly and upbeat, you can tell they’re good with people. It feels very open and welcoming. You can easily go with friends and family, but it’s also great for a team lunch at work (I’ve done both). It’s got sort of a lively cafeteria vibe. There is tons to choose from on the menu and it’s all really reasonably priced. Expansive drink selection, from alcohol to tea to pop. Only complaint is the Styrofoam; makes it hard to cut into things without punching through the bottom.

Got some burritos delivered, absolutely delicious- the chorizo potato will be something I think about for months!

Had to bring home some fresh tortillas back to Seattle. They are massive, on the thinner side- and get all the perfect blistering when heated up on a plancha or a skillet.

Physical environment was very nice – authentic and original feel. The food was take out, and temperture felt cool and uncooked. Obviously, this should never happen and other reviews say the same. They don’t seem to be taking customer feedback seriously, and frankly the temperture of my food should never feel cool and uncooked. In my opinion, that’s a disgrace, especially in light of other reviews claiming the same.

Do the right thing, Carolina’s! Serving uncooked food in an intentional act. Have more respect for your customers, community, and yourself.

Carolina’s has been my go-to Mexican restaurant in Phoenix for over five years now, and I can confidently say their green chili burrito is one of the best in the city. It’s a staple, packed with flavor, always fresh, and it hits the spot every single time. There’s something about how they prepare it that keeps me coming back. If you know, you know. It’s one of those dishes that’s stood the test of time, and I’m glad it’s still on the menu.

The inside seating area is actually really nice, clean, and welcoming. Whether you’re grabbing food to go or sitting down for a meal, the vibe inside always feels just right. It’s casual, but you can tell they put effort into keeping it comfortable. It’s a solid spot for lunch or dinner with family or friends. The staff is friendly too, never had a bad experience with customer service. They keep the line moving and always treat you right.

Now, I’ll admit the parking lot could definitely use some love, it’s a little rough. But luckily, you’re not there for the parking. Once you’re inside and have that burrito in front of you, you forget all about the potholes. All in all, Carolina’s is a Phoenix classic, and I’ll keep coming back for as long as they keep doing what they do best.

Truly great burritos at a good price, the tortillas are something special and if you have the appetite I would recommend getting a “buttered Tortilla” in addition to your order, really special.
The place is a cool vibe too.
