Came to All Star for the first time in a few months because they were participating in Chicago Restaurant Week, and unfortunately it was a really disappointing experience.

The soup was amazing as always, and the cornbread was good. The soft-shell crab was just okay. However, myself and one friend ordered the jumbo shrimp, and another friend ordered the Sailor’s Feast all three dishes were so oversalted that they were almost inedible. One of my friends had to dip her shrimp in water just to tolerate it, and she later ended up throwing up from how salty the food was.

When we let our waitress know, she was extremely kind and tried to help by bringing lemon and lime, but it didn’t fix the issue. The kitchen clearly oversalted the food, and unfortunately that made the main courses completely unenjoyable.

It was also concerning to see “all sales are final” on the digital menu, especially when the restaurant was nearly empty during Restaurant Week.

I want to be clear that our waitress was wonderful this was a kitchen issue. I’ve enjoyed All Star in the past, which is why this experience was especially disappointing.

Chicago Restaurant Week review. So with that said, they were very accommodating when we arrived 30 minutes before our reservation and when we asked to move seats because of a draft. Once we were set, the server “Billie” let us know that they were out of almost everything on the Chicago Restaurant Menu. Unfortunately, what we were left to choose from, to me, honestly tasted like frozen dinners that they added more shrimp and some razzle dazzle (chives) to. But it’s also a sports bar and for some reason the TV’s weren’t working that day so we joked that they even ran out of sports. Also our server “Billie” was the only server for that lunch shift and the service reflected that.
Also Marry Me Salmon and college football seems like an odd pairing. Should stick to fried seafood and soups and salads.

Let’s go to Happy Hour! Allstar provided a great laid back vibe for a Wednesday Happy Hour. We dined in during St. Patrick’s Weekend, so there were lots of drink options. For food, I recommend their traditional Buffalo and Garlic Parmesan wings, popcorn shrimp, seafood gumbo with cheesy garlic bread and mozzarella sticks. I also suggest arriving early or using ride share since parking is limited on the street. I’ll definitely be returning☺️

I had the salmon and shrimp, and let me tell you absolutely phenomenal. Perfectly seasoned, fresh, and cooked to perfection. Every bite was a reminder of why this place stands out.

Huge thanks to Robert for the warm hospitality, he made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. And Julio? Top-tier service. He took care of us like we were family, attentive and professional the whole way through.

If you’re looking for amazing food, great vibes, and a team that genuinely cares, All Star Seafood and Sports is the spot. Can’t wait to come back!

Ordered the BBQ bacon cheeseburger on Swiss. According to the menu, it comes with: 8oz Prime Beef patty cooked to temp choice (I chose medium), Secret BBQ sauce, smoked bacon, cheddar cheese (I substituted Swiss), lettuce, tomato, pickles & onion.

After one bite, I noticed mayonnaise on the bottom of the burger and set it aside, keeping the fries. When the waiter returned, I explained the issue and ordered coconut shrimp instead. The waiter took the burger away.

Then, the waiter came back with the burger and stated there was no mayonnaise on it, saying the white substance on the bottom of the burger was melted Swiss. I pointed out the difference, but the matter was not resolved in a way that made the meal usable for me.

The coconut shrimp was good.

I paid my bill and left a tip. Food issues happen, but how they are handled matters just as much. Based on this experience, I do not plan to return.

I came here last year after the marathon and had mostly a positive experience, so I recommended it to our group this year. We made a reservation and when we arrived it was not packed. Unfortunately, we ran into a series of issues. When we initially ordered drinks, 2 of us did not receive waters and we had to ask twice to get these (including our marathoner). Then, when placing drink orders there were several mix ups and reiterating our orders. When we placed an order for another round of drinks our serve seemed confused and irritated. One of our members ordered a mimosa, and while the rest of our table received their mimosas, we had to ask multiple times about the status of the mimosa. Eventually there was one sitting on the bar in the server area for 10+ mins and one server told us they “had to make sure it was for us” and then walked away the opposite direction of the bar. We did not get the drink until going over to the bartender and asking if it was ours (it was).

Now for the food — we had to ask our server how to order food since it was unclear if it was on QR code or with her. You did have to order it with the server, but it seemed obvious she would not have come over if not for asking her directly. We ordered our food and after 10-15 mins they bring over a few plates of food that sounded similar to what we ordered, but not exactly. We told the server and she took it from our table and brought it directly over to a different table and set it down. It then took ~45 mins after ordering for us to get our food. We also asked for a side of ranch several times and did not receive it until almost the end of the meal. But the real kicker: our marathoner ordered chicken tenders. The rest of the food was brought out and despite asking multiple times about the status of the chicken tenders, they did not come out until ~30 mins after the rest of our food. The food overall wasn’t terrible, but certainly not worth putting up with the rest of the experience.

I understand it was a busier day, but that doesn’t excuse poor service and bad attitudes. Every time we asked for something each person we came into contact with seemed confused and inconvenienced. It was like they were avoiding our table and we could only flag them down when they were at the bar to grab drinks for other tables. I believe one of the servers names was Emoni. Overall, very frustrated and disappointed in our experience here. Definitely would not recommend, especially after the marathon.

Based on my previous experiences at this restaurant, I’m giving all fives. Today, however, I ran into an issue. I love the seafood stew and came and purchased two bowls to complete our dinner tonight. The way it was packed proved to be a very bad decision. There was no wrapping around the bowls of soup to protect them from spilling, and boy did I pay the price. This is a great establishment, the staff is usually very, very kind. Today however I need the owner to know that the next time to-go stews are ordered, they shouldn’t just be thrown into a bag and given to the customer because this is what the end result will be.

Positives: Julio the manager was amazing!! Very kind, accommodating and great service. We were very impressed with his overall attitude and attentiveness. The food was excellent! We had the scallops with complimentary sauce and nachos. They were very kind with turning on specific screens for us to watch our sports. Atmosphere was great, and the amount of TVs was amazing. They also play pay-per-view which is a huge plus.

Negatives: our servers were inconsistent and it took on average 10/15 minutes to get the attention of one. Additionally, when we asked for our server, someone would say they’d get them but would proceed to take another 10/15. When we ordered food, it took another 25 minutes at least- when it came our food was excellent and came hot and ready, but we had to ask 2-3 times for the estimated time on them coming, as again the wait took very long. We ordered a chilled shot that was very watered down (i used to be a bartender and this tasted like they left the shot in the ice and forgot about it) and again, took 15-20 minutes at least to get. We got comped those and given replacement shots, but the check came out weird. When we went to pay, we were given the amount and the touchpad. The amount was 204.50. We asked for a detailed receipt and found that the drinks were rung in differently, not comped, and they had automatically tipped themselves 18% (NOT shown on receipt or disclosed verbally- only revealed AFTER I asked specifically). That all definitely felt very scammy and possibly explained the overall bad service since they are getting an automatic tip on a 2 person table. We were discounted for the trouble, which was kind, but the end receipt that they printed out AFTER we paid still showed the two shots wrung up wrong/not comped. Overall we left feeling very torn on what to think. I’m attaching our first and second receipts.
