*disclaimer this is a takeout review, will update when I go in person*

The reviews for this place seem hit or miss, and I can understand that sentiment. I think if I ordered solely based on the glowing reviews, it would be misleading. However I think the bad reviews miss the mark as well.

First thing is that if you want to order pickup, you gotta go old fashioned and call! Honestly didn’t hate this, but some transparency on the website would be good. The food was fresh at pickup and they even threw in some free bread when we asked. Great pickup experience and from the peek around the corner, the vibes of the place are cozy and would be nice in the future for a visit.

In general, the pasta was flavorful. We got the rigatoni carbonara and the Pasta alla Boscailo. I was generally happy with the food, and it tasted good! However the portion sizes for the price left something to be desired. We paid $50 for two pasta dishes that left us with no leftovers (I don’t normally finish my food at restaurants). A $5 break per dish would make a huge difference in terms of how long it will take me to go back.

I’ll probably go back because this place is in my neighborhood and it seems charming. I also want to try some of the meat dishes when I have a larger dinner budget! Alas those were out of my budget for the evening.

I’m a monthly regular but life got busy and I missed the changes. Tonight was my first visit post changes and it was delightful. There was a welcoming atmosphere (including the namesake present), great music in the background and as promised the upgraded dishes-rich flavorful French onion soup, whole branzino with tasty olive dressing ( too much to consume but will make for a satisfying lunch tomorrow), an upgraded drink menu including a great Manhattan and wine list, and a beautiful creme brulee. I’m quite satisfied

I had heard a lot of wonderful things about this restaurant, so it would be hard to live up to my expectations. The food was very good. We loved the crispy broccoli, the lasagna, and the gnocchi. My husband really liked the flourless chocolate almond cake. I thought it was good but didn’t love the texture. I had expected a fancier restaurant, so I thought the atmosphere was just okay. I did like the fact that it was quiet. So many restaurants are too loud these days.

I visited Trattoria da Lina around Easter this year, and as an Italian, I can confidently say I will not be returning. The food was highly disappointing, and the service was just average. The orecchiette dish, in particular, stood out for all the wrong reasons. The sauce lacked flavor, and the dish was topped with what appeared to be fake parmesan cheese—more reminiscent of shredded paper than actual cheese.

Outstanding Italian food. Meatballs are excellent. They provide Italian bread for the table. Lamb chops were quite good. Even the spinach was good. Service was friendly and efficient. The ricotta dessert was superb. I also tried the chicken parmesan and it was tasty. The serving size was enough to share.

A quintessential gem ! This Takoma Park Italian restaurant serves delicious authentic Italian food with assiduous care. My elderly “foodie” parents, who are 96 and 91, and I have had a standing Sunday dinner reservation at Trattoria de Lina ever since I discovered them in 2021 December. The servers are equally as excellent as the cuisine ! I recently moved out of the DMV area but already will be making a bee line to Trattoria de Lina with my parents and friends upon my first visit. Trattoria is under renovation but re-opens the 20th of January 2026. Do yourself a favor, go there and you will be so glad you did !

The atmosphere of the restaurant was very warm & nice as well as the service; however, I’m a pizza aficionado & the pizza that I ordered was absolutely horrible! It was under-cooked even though I asked for it well done. The soup that I ordered was good though. I’d say if you are a pizza lover or appreciate a good “pie” do not order the pizza!

I came here for my birthday with my family yesterday and everything was amazing. Our sever, Douglas, gave exceptional service. The food was over the top and the atmosphere was great as always. This restaurant has reached the top of my list for Italian food in DC.

I’ve been here several times and I’m completely in love.

The wine selection is great. I always enjoy the Moscato or Rose.

As for food, everything I have ever had has been amazing. But my absolute favorites are…

Fresh Burrata, Basil & Heirloom Tomatoes – So fresh and light!

Seafood Pasta Calamarata Style – The pasta is always al dente. Sauce is on point and flavorful while light. And the seafood is so fresh.

Grilled Octopus – While this has always been a favorite. It gets better with each visit! The octopus is grilled to perfection.

Fusilli Alla Norma (Eggplant, Basil, Smoked Mozzarella & Tomato Sauce) – I love the fresh cheese and smoky flavors. And the pasta is always al dente.

I’ve also tried and enjoyed…

Gnocchi Pesto – The pesto is on point. And the gnocchi is perfectly cooked.

Fried Calamari – The last time, it had no zucchini. And it was all legs. I’m a leg girl, so I was super pleased about this!

Grilled Branzino. – This fish is perfectly grilled and fresh.

The only things I’ve tried and wasn’t crazy about were..

Caesar Salad – Super salty for my taste. Huge portion though.

Spaghetti & Meatballs – Meatballs are good. But the spaghetti was a little too soft, and the sauce isn’t very flavorful.

The complimentary bread is fresh and comes with this addicting sundried tomato oil. You have been warned.

The desserts are also delicious. The Tiramisu is hands down the BEST. But the GF Chocolate Caramel Cake is lovely as well.

The service is always fantastic. So warm, welcoming and attentive.

The prices are SO reasonable. Especially for the quality. My favorite Italian in the city!
