We visited Rancho King Buffet here in Houston and were pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. It used to have a creamy jalapeño hot sauce and they no longer have it and they don’t sit behind the counter and make tacos anymore so you get no more taco shells and there’s no chili con queso on the buffet anymore. So I came here for Christmas lunch to try it out. The food was decent but not blow me out of the water amazing. I tried a bit of everything to see how it was. The rice and beans were ok but needed a bit more spices. The champurrado was good. It had a good not too sweet taste. The tamales on the other hand could have been amazing if the masa was cooked all the way. The filling was good (pork ) had great flavor. The bean quesadillas were flavorful but had too much bean perfect amount of cheese. The chicken flautas ha good flavor but we’re abit dry .The arroz con leche and banana pudding were a great end to the meal nice and sweet and great flavor. All in all I would come back but maybe for dinner to see if there is a difference in what the serve.

I’d give it a 3.7 star review. My personal favorites were the pupusas accompanied by pickled slaw and the creamy spicy salsa verde, and the birria de chivo. Loved the cafe de Olla!!

I am very disappointed in this restaurant since it used to be somewhat good but nowadays the food is stale, overpriced for what the quality, and the meat there was dry or tasted rubbery, the shrimp soup thing also had a weird taste, I also found small pieces of egg in my dessert. I went home still feeling hungry. If i had to say a good thing about this place it was the pepsi zero sugar tasted great. 1/5

Food was stale, lacked flavor, dry, and some cold. Unfortunately, my fiancee had some vomiting afterwards. I would give them props that it wasn’t like ‘old oil’ flavor.

Not gonna complain about the price because its not cheap anywhere you go now days but the food was not fresh, I went there for lunch around 2 or 3 pm and the food had been sitting there for a lil while.
They have a sign on every table saying to remember the waiters live of the tips, but you literally do everything your self, you grab a plate and serve yourself, you get a cup and serve yourself a drink, sauces condiments everything your self, they only thing don’t do is pick up the plates, but I didn’t see no waiter until I was leaving she went to pickup the plates.
Yes I still feel obligated to leave a tip so I did.
The aguas frescas are not frescas, son de galon.
