Here’s the English version with a light touch of emojis:

This restaurant was recommended by a friend, and we actually drove out here just to try it. As soon as we walked in, the place was packed—super lively!

My top recommendation is the steamed fish head with chopped chili. The fish was definitely fresh; it took about 20 minutes to prepare, and the meat was tender and flavorful .

The stir-fried beef with chili, however, was a bit disappointing. It was made with green peppers instead of the usual small chilies and cilantro, so the flavor turned out quite average ‍♀️.

The mashed pepper with century egg was decent—nothing extraordinary, but a good appetizer that’s refreshing and goes well with rice.
The tofu was tasty too, mildly spicy and a bit oily, but still very satisfying and perfect with rice .

Overall, it was a pretty good dining experience! ️

Party of 11 walks in on a Monday afternoon. No we didn’t make reservations and somehow was able to fit ourselves in their small dedicated parking lot. Staff did not try to hide their annoyance.

Not tons of customers but they didn’t want to merge some tables together for us so we were squashed in one round table in the back. They do have high chairs so thats good for any small kiddos.

We ordered 10 dishes, which came with 10 bowls of rice. We’re mostly northerners, so only 3 of our dishes were actually spicy, and maybe that’s why, but most things ranged from bland to tasteless. And the spicy ones (the good stuff) was too much for us.

The better ones were basket popcorn chicken (spicy) and the pork belly chunks (lightly sweetened). Their also known for their shredded potato (with egg yolk), and the favorite was alcoholic tapioca desert soup, but I didn’t have any.

The hanging white meat rack and the riced baby back ribs were the least popular. And the spicy rice noodle was like 90% peppers (for flavor) and not much actual substance.

Overall there’s not much good finds for a large, non-spice enjoying party, but its fast, cheap, and local to the area. And since it was my cousin footing the bill (poor Rutgers student), the place served sufficiently for our lunch event.

I really love this traditional Chinese food restaurant! It’s one of the few places I visit at least once a week or take out. The food is always fresh, delicious, and authentically prepared, reminding me of home-cooked meals. This restaurant will never let me down. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a genuine taste of traditional Chinese cuisine!

We stumbled upon Hunan Manor during a road trip and made a slight detour to Highland Park, NJ — and it turned out to be one of our best decisions. This Hunan restaurant has been around for years, and now we know why.

We ordered a spread that would make any Hunan local smile:
– Farmer-style stir-fried pork with green peppers (农家小炒肉)
– Stir-fried Hunan bean curd (小炒臭豆腐)
– Hunan brine rice noodles (湖南卤粉)
– Short ribs with quail eggs
– Stir-fried cabbage
– Fried yogurt sticks

Mid-meal, we realized the “stir-fried stinky tofu” was actually the Hunan-style bean curd. So we added a true Hunan stinky tofu — the black fermented kind.

The farmer-style stir-fried pork was exactly what you’d crave if you grew up in Hunan: spicy, oily, thinly sliced pork with fragrant green peppers. It delivered full nostalgia. The stir-fried bean curd was also on point — from the finely minced pork and pickled black bean curd (豆豉) to the pickled red chilies (剁辣椒) and scallions, every bite was authentic and well seasoned.

The short ribs with quail eggs, however, didn’t quite land. The ribs were okay, but forgettable, and the quail eggs had a texture that didn’t quite work. The stir-fried cabbage, on the other hand, was a sleeper hit: spicy, crunchy, juicy, and served bubbling hot in a stainless steel pot over a flame — a presentation you often find in Chinese dining.

The Hunan brine noodles were stellar, with fried peanuts in their red skins and tender beef shank slices adding flavor and richness.

The fried yogurt was a near win. The inside was warm, flowing, creamy — but the outer crust could have been crisper and richer.

As for the black stinky tofu, they made a sincere effort. It came with the classic garlic and pickled chili sauce and even had the signature slit cut into the tofu to absorb flavor — just like in Hunan. Still, the tofu texture was a bit too firm compared to the perfect crispy-outside, tender-inside balance of the original.

The interior décor is ornate and atmospheric, with velvet chairs, warm lighting, and elegant round tables — perfect for group dining. Service was incredibly fast — dishes started arriving before we even finished ordering.

It’s a bit on the pricier side, but the authenticity, speed, and flavor make it absolutely worth it. If you’re craving real Hunan food outside of China, this place deserves your attention.

I’ve liked it since my first visit. Although I didn’t get to try the spicy fish head on my first visit, I enjoyed the delicious trotters and whole fish with chopped chili. This time, I made an early reservation for the spicy fish head, and finally got to taste it! It’s a great restaurant, highly recommended to everyone.

First time coming here for lunch. Ordered the hunan fried rice-was a little spicy but tolerable 9.5/10. Japanese tofu sizzling plate-tofu was soft and flavorful 9/10. Sliced fish with chili sauce-soft fish, crunchy broccoli, nothing remarkable but was tasty nonetheless 8/10. Will definitely be coming back.

The Hunan cuisine at this restaurant is very authentic. Whether it’s the signature fish, braised pork, or marinated noodles, everything is delicious. The dishes are served quickly, and you can taste the freshness of the stir-fry. Additionally, the service and ambiance are both great, making this restaurant highly recommended.

Went for lunch and the food was very good. The service could have been a little better if they were more polite but all in all a great experience. One hundred percent recommend the shredded beef with peppers and the spicy fish filets. Absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend stopping by this place.

Now for my standard COVID comments as of March 2022. Interior is clean and seating is nice and spaced. All employees are wearing masks. We felt safe as we ate indoors.

The food here is really incredible and authentic (per my immigrant parents). Everything that we got was delicious and perfectly cooked. Stand outs include the Preserved pork with dried turnips, Crispy Pork Intestine with peppers, and the Sliced lamb with fresh chilis. We absolutely will be back here. I already cant wait!

Chanced upon this lovely restaurant in Highland Park when we were there on another errand. We walked in and were surprised to see sanitizers on all tables unlike any other restaurants we’ve been to.. the place was also clean! We got a quiet booth in a corner… we ordered hot tea, main course, and dessert. My husband tried their fried rice, while I ordered the Spicy Cauliflower and the Yam and Woodear mushrooms. Both tasted soooooo gooood! ❤️ The icing on the cake however was dessert-the red bean paste pastry. I haven’t eaten anything like it before! Will definitely go back again!
