In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. Enjoy your meal in our family-friendly, cabin-themed diner with our welcoming staff or order to enjoy in the comfort of your home.

They will not allow you to order off of a kid’s menu if you’ve had gastric sleeve or bypass surgery. So don’t bother asking. They’ll tell you to order off of the regular menu and just order less. They would rather LOSE money than accommodate you. Even though there slogan is, “Spend your hard earned dollars with us. We appreciate you.”
Thankfully our waitress had more sense than her management. She was an absolute sweetheart. And we wish her luck in her studies.
The rest:
The food is plentiful. The flavor of the burger that I ate was a bit lacking. However, I have come for breakfast as well and their gravy is really good.
I would recommend the chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy.
The atmosphere was open and not cluttered. But, it was also a bit messy for a non rush hour.
Their menus are clevery disguised as newspapers with some pretty cool facts. However, the paper I got today was worn and tearing. It felt like 6 people read the paper before me. Definitely needed to wash my hands before I ate after that one.
The service was friendly and punctual.
