We found this lovely little place while hiking North Ottawa Dunes at PJ Hoffmaster. We love finding new, privately owned spots, and this was such a pleasant surprise! Don was the proprietor and lovely gentlemen who sat us, he gave us some history which we thoroughly enjoyed. Apparently, this little gem has been around quite a while! Our server, Heather offered perfect service, such a pleasant soul. If I understood correctly, Don’s daughter and son-in-law used to work at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, and are now here helping run it. You can tell the chef/son-in-law takes pride in his food preparations. I had elk medallions with a red wine reduction and au gratin potatoes and asparagus. My husband had the whitefish with the same sides. Also ! We had a wonderful Lobster bisque to start! Came with bread, some of which was Boston brown bread! What a delightful surprise! We took two loaves home! The whole experience was splendid, the atmosphere was warm and cozy, and Don and Heather made our experience truly the best! We will definitely be back! Highly recommended!!!

Our party of 3 had a wonderful evening with excellent service. Our server was attentive, personable and on top of everything. The bread basket was awesome…the rye with raisins tasted like dessert, soooo good. The Michigan Cherry salad was lightly dressed and lovely. The Parmesan Crusted Whitefish was delicate, fresh and tasty. But the Butternut Squash Ravioli w goat cheese and clarified butter sauce with toasted pine nuts was the STAR! I drank the sauce so as not to miss any of the dish.

Great service and delicious food as always. The filet, elk, stuffed shrooms, bruschetta and key lime pie were excellent. The wedge salad was just ok.

In from Chicago and was told I had to try this place. Glad I did, it has extremely friendly staff, Michele especially. Unbelievable Au Gratin potatoes and don’t get me started on the Chocolate Lava Cake. If you haven’t been here stop by, they will not disappoint. The filet and shrimp is outstanding with a glass of wine included. Thank you Arboreal Inn.

We both had the Surf and Turf. The lobster and steak were very good. The augratin potatoes were dry and lacked a good presentation. The veg dish of squash was overcooked. Our appetizer of escargot looked and tasted like something from Gordon foods. We have had much better from other fine dining restaurants. The cocktails were good, but my Manhattan was presented in a whiskey glass instead of a martini glass. I asked to have that corrected, and our waitress corrected that. Overall, the atmosphere was good. I expected better

It’s a bit dated on the inside. The food was cooked well it just lacked the fine dining component. I would go again just with different expectations.

My husband and I had dinner here for the first time recently. We didn’t have reservations, but we did show up at 5:00 when they opened and they had a high top table available in the bar. We mentioned that it was my husband’s birthday and they brought out a free birthday dessert, which was really nice. Their wine selection is great, however, they don’t offer too many wines that you can purchase by the glass. My husband had the Delmonico steak special (not always on the menu) with a cheese type sauce and au gratin potatoes that was perfectly prepared. I had the champagne chicken that was cooked to perfection! Their cocktails are made well and they offer bread with butter before the meal. The ambiance was nice, not modern, but old style elegant. We highly recommend it!

2 appetizers, 6 entrees, many drinks and 2 desserts. Everything was delicious! My filet was delicious medium rare. I heard the asparagus was the best ever. I also heard at the table the fruity cake dessert was the best ever. I had the Lava cake which was great but they weren’t lying. Lobster stuffed ravioli delish. I hate leaving reviews but can’t believe I had never eaten here before.

The atmosphere here was lovely and the service was excellent! The lobster ravioli was not quite what I was expecting, the lobster ravioli filling tastes a bit more like a fish-lobster blend than strictly lobster, but the lobster chunks in the sauce were good. The whitefish dip was good. The halibut was good for Michigan, but not quite as good as I have had in seafood restaurants in other states. As far as fine dining goes, this is one of the better restaurants in the Grand Haven area. The prices are a bit steep for the overall quality of the food, but the restaurant is out of the way and a nice place to go if you are looking for a romantic evening out.

I had the pleasure of my daughter taking me to the Arboreal Inn as a Birthday gift. The food (Whitefish) was probably the best I have ever had and the service was interesting. I have not been there in a long time and certainly recommend it to anyone expecting a great dinning experience.
It was unusual to observe the Manager/owner checking on customers and actually helping his wait staff. Perhaps he picked up some of those commendable skills working on Mackinaw Island? ERIC ODMARK
