Minimalist Mexican joint turning out enormous burritos & other Mission-style classics.

Today, I found out the prices of the quesadilla’s went up around $4 in the last month or so. My jaw dropped. They are now roughly the SAME price as their burritos. And HALF the size. How can a steak Quesadilla be $16.45? An Al Pastor one be $15.45? I have been going here for their quesadillas since forever. Best I have ever had anywhere. Went there for them a couple times on my birthdays, I like them so much. Still miss the LONG LONG gone salsa bar, though. I go there every month or so and grab two or three and save one or two in the freezer, eat the other at work. Well, I used to, anyway. I cannot fathom spending the same price on a quesadilla as a burrito when it is HALF the size. Maybe I’ll go back someday. Maybe on a Birthday. Bums me out. Price point-meet reality.

Been coming here ever since I was a kid and have always loved it! Even in college I look forward to coming back to have La Cumbre. Their burritos are always amazing and they have great service; it’s super fast and efficient. We usually order takeout because there aren’t that many spots to sit inside but their outdoor seating is cute!

I ordered a steak burrito, which came out to around $20. There was barely any meat—the so-called burrito was mostly filled with lettuce, which was not appetizing. You’re better off going to Chipotle. The older woman at the cashier was also unkind when I asked for spicy salsa.

This ranks as the worst Mexican food joint I have ever been to. I ordered a super quesadilla, and I received a burrito and not even a full meal. The food was horrible, the cleanliness was terrible, and I am not sure what the hype is all about here. I will never return here ever again.
However, people are free to make up their mind. I did not like, but that does not mean others will not. Please make your own judgement, but my judgement is clear. Good luck La Cumbre!

Wonderful Mexican food place in downtown San Mateo. Located next to the train station, it has a wide variety of burritos, tacos, salads, and other Mexican dishes to choose from. Delicious spicy sauce if you like spicy (green one). Plenty of parking in their own lot, on the street, or in the train station parking lot next door. Not a lot of seats for dining in, but perfect place for take out.

What no tortilla chips? This place has been here for decades and decades. I first ate here in the Mid-eighties. The food is decent and the ambiance is casual. Right next to the train station on busy B street… great location.

***DONT COME HERE***This is probably honestly one of the worst restaurants in the area. THE PORTION SIZE IS PATHETIC! This is claimed to be a super shrimp burrito. I don’t know if I left the United States for 20 years or what but a super burrito should be the size that is twice the size of your hand. It should be enough to fill you stuffed and then have leftover the next day. This place is so stingy with their portion and is not at all worth $14. Go down the road to LA CORNETA in Burlingame and you get a way better deal for your money. Will never return and recommend that you don’t support this place. Don’t support places that give small portions, the more you support the smaller portions over the years they will give.

Before here, I’ve had refried beans a handful of times, usually from Taco Bell and a very vague memory of having it from a can… Also from Taco Bell? (I will separately follow up on this strange memory I’ve just recalled…)
The refried beans here are amazing! I really like soft foods and smooth foods, so this hit the mark for me completely. I have come back here twice literally because I was craving their refried beans!! I promise I’m not crazy if you try it too.
I’ve had their nachos, bites of a burrito, and the chicken dinner plate. All pretty good. The nachos especially are HUGE and super delicious. Pair it with a Mexican Coke and you’ve got yourself a pretty swell Friday night dinner.

Bad service, no customer service oriented at all.
$4.00 per taco, cold tortillas, full of beans and literally 7 small pcs of meet.
You have the opción for the tip minimum 20% they don’t even give you and eye contact.
I wasted 40.00 but learned not to give tip in advance and negotiate comeback to this place.

I came here due to my friends’ recommendations and ordered their famous mission style burrito ($12.59) to go. The burrito was unsatisfying. It was nothing special. I find the burritos at Chipotle tasting better than this.
