Marvelous restaurant across the street from our hotel, The Ocean Mist, in Leith (a port of Edinburgh). Staff were friendly, atmosphere was like an old English Pub, and food was excellent. My sister and her sister-in-law had been traveling in Ireland and Scotland for 3 weeks when I met them in Edinburgh, and they said that it was the BEST dinner that they had had during their entire trip so far! Prices were also reasonable. (The price per person I gave was what we spent INCLUDING our generous tip.) I was also amazed at how nicely everything was presented. Have you ever seen Mushy Peas (1st picture) so beautifully plated?
Since coming back, I have told all my friends & relatives to go to this restaurant if they like seafood and are in the Edinburgh area.

First meal in Edinburgh and it did not disappoint! We loved how accommodating the server was, we liked the ambience, and the food itself was truly the best!

Beautiful day, and eating here was the best decision we have made. The staff are very personable as well as helpful. I had the scallop dish, which was phenomenal, and one of the best dishes I have had in a long time. My friend had the fish pie, while steaming hot, the flavors were amazing and well balanced. 2 truly amazing dishes. The fish and chips that the wives had were absolutely huge, but fresh and well cooked. Definitely a place to go for an amazing meal. The Jazz music was especially comforting and relaxing.

Right on the port in Leith, The Shore offers a soft, elegant experience that feels both refined and warmly familiar. The wooden interior has a lived-in charm — soft lighting glows gently, and the slightly worn floors creak just enough to remind you this place has stories. Red velvet drapes line the space, parting just enough for servers to slip in and out like actors moving backstage — smooth, confident, and quietly choreographed.

The servers, dressed immaculately in crisp white shirts and black aprons, move with a calm grace — gracious, attentive, and never overbearing. Their warmth reflects true Scottish hospitality, the kind that makes you feel instantly at home.

The food? Genuinely incredible.
I could have stayed for hours, happily lost in the comforting rhythm of the room — and that bowl of mussels. Served steaming in a white wine sauce so rich and fragrant, I genuinely considered drinking it with a straw. Every mouthful was a kind of quiet joy, simple and deeply satisfying.

The daily specials were equally tempting. I tried a seafood linguine in a slightly spiced, tomato-based sauce, brimming with giant prawns and plump mussels — hearty, flavourful, and beautifully cooked.

The space is dimly lit, with a warm green glow from flickering candles and softly shimmering bar lights that dance across the tables. It’s the kind of atmosphere that wraps around you like a favourite blanket.

I dined here on my own and felt completely at ease — unhurried, well looked after, and able to enjoy the moment without distraction. Whether you’re after a peaceful solo dinner or a long, laughter-filled evening with friends or family, The Shore delivers something special.

I recently dined at this restaurant and had mixed feelings about the overall experience. The starters were absolutely delicious, setting high expectations for the rest of the meal. However, the mains fell short. The fish pie, while flavorful, was disappointingly runny. It was so liquid that we had to use a spoon instead of a fork. Despite its good taste, the consistency was off-putting.

The wine selection, on the other hand, was excellent, with a variety of high-quality options that complemented our meal well. Unfortunately, the dessert was another letdown. We ordered a cheesecake, but it lacked the signature texture and flavour of cheese, resembling more of a double cream. It missed the mark entirely.

In summary, while the starters and wine were highlights, the fish pie and cheesecake left much to be desired.

An absolute standout in Leith and one of the best seafood meals I’ve had, period.

The atmosphere was warm and effortlessly refined. Our waiter was exceptional—elegant, incredibly knowledgeable, and perfectly attentive without ever being intrusive. The food was beyond delicious: beautifully presented, impeccably fresh, and full of flavour.

Anyways, couldn’t recommend this restaurant more highly. A true gem and a must-visit if you ever are in the area.

We stopped here for lunch hoping to have a nice meal of fresh fish options. The lunch menu and a la carte menu we were offered did not have a lot of options. There were shellfish meals, which we couldn’t try due to shellfish allergy. The only other fish option was the cured salmon, which was okay but very basic. As we were leaving, we overheard another table ordering fish and chips, which was not listed on the menus we were given…I guess we could have asked the server if there were any other things they could prepare not listed on the menus? It would have been nice to have a fresh fish option at lunchtime!

The meal we had on Wednesday evening was superb, the best salmon tartare I’ve ever had and fish pie was outstanding, my wife went for the Stornoway black pudding starter and beef bourguignon main which was polished off no problem. We didn’t get the staff names but they were both great, if you are ever in the area this place is a must. Thank you.
