Great food and cold beer! Big plates and enough food to take home. I was hoping for spicier, but adding salsa to my plate was just right.

I walked in here because the reataurant next door had a waiting period. Best decision ever. They have a diverse menu that includes seafood. Welcomed with chips and three salsas, I started off with a tostada de aguachile rojo. This is shrimp marinated in a sauce made with lime, water and chiltepin. It is pure fire and only for the well trained. My mouth waters again as I type. Cucumber and red onion provide texture and flavors.
Chiles rellenos were my main course, available stuffed with meat or cheese, I opted for the meat. They are served open and on white cheese sauce. Different from any chile relleno I’ve had, it was a very pleasant surprise. Washed everything down with a couple of XX lager. Charming and efficient server. Unexpected find in Hobbs. Sure to return.
So I did for breakfast. I asked for my eggs over medium. She said sunny side up. No, I want my yolk runny and the white cooked. “That’s sunny side up.” She brought them sunny side up, raw yolk, runny white. Revolting to me. Minus three stars for service.
Anyway, she won’t prevent me from going back for more aguachile.
Went back a month later and tried their yellow aguachile, mango and habanero based. Very hot but not like the red one.

Food was good. Service was terrible. Do not recommend this place at all. All the staff walks around with a frown. Very unwelcoming.

This had to be one of the worst Mexican restaurants that I went to in Hobbs, NM. I did not like the menu setup and description of entrees. I took a shot at ordering something unfamiliar to me and I got what I deserved. I could see if I was in Mexico and I was familiar with the cuisine. The rice was crayon orange and the refried beans had an after taste that was repulsive. Since Tia Juana’s was not open, my husband and I decided to try this place. Big mistake.

First time here.
ALL THE NEGATIVE: It took about 5 minutes before someone came to seat us. Once seated, it took about another 5 min to be waited on. My cup of water was dirty in the inside, but corrected when I pointed it out.
POSITIVE: the waitress was very friendly. The item she recommended for me enchiladas sucias (green enchiladas with beef) was great! I’m picky about Mexican rice and theirs was good. My husband had the asaado and he is very picky, but said that was what asado was supposed to be like! My niece had the Kokio (I know this spelling isn’t right). She said the taco being crunchy was a first due to the other food touching the shell causing it to be soggy.

The wait is due to being short staffed. The restaurant quickly filled up while we were there.

I DO recommended a visit if you’re looking for good Mexican food.

The chips were house made and so was the hot salsa.

Truly authentic. However, I would have liked to have seen fresh mushrooms and real homemade tortillas

Don’t go here. Trash place. Go next door instead. They have a sign in front saying happy hour 4 to 7. Manger say they don’t know why they didn’t take signs down. How stupid can you be

My family and I recently visited Habaneros in order to give them ANOTHER chance and boy were we disappointed! Again. We walked in around 6pm. Music was super loud like you would expect at a bar. Not a huge deal but worth mentioning. There were only 4 other tables seated and 1 was about to leave at the time and service was still awful. They offered us chips and salsa but didn’t mention that they charge $3 for it. It consisted of 2 samplings of salsa, 2 limes, and a small bowl of chips (no refills).
(Salsas are both VERY spicy btw)
The food took around 30 min to come out. Some plates were hot and others were cold.
If you’re looking for a place to get drinks with someone, this might be a good spot for that. If you’re a family looking for a good Mexican food restaurant, go anywhere else but here. I’ll post a pic of what I got for reference of the amount of food I was given for $13
Bottom line: terrible service, bar atmosphere, less than ordinary Hobbs Mexican food

Very good Tex Mex and we’re picky (from Arizona). I had the Combination Plate with Taco, Enchilada and Chili Relleno which came with Refried Beans & Rice. They had a full bar and the Micheladas we’re on many tables and looked good. We will definitely go back the next time we visit Hobbs.
