Stumbled upon this wonderful German Deli. We love German cuisine. The corned beef Reuben was amazing paired with the German potato salad. The Bratwurst and cucumber dill salad was also to die for. Ms. Luanne Hildebrandt walked around and said hello to all the guests. Such a great family, we loved seeing all the photos and reading about the history.

This was my first time here, and to be honest with you, I love the place. It’s been there since 1879, and the inside is all original. It is a work in progress but I love the way it looks right now to be honest with you. The people were very courteous. The menu, it’s very generous. And there are a ton of options on there for drinks. They serve lemonade t in water for free. I thought that was a very nice touch, but all the sandwiches we tried. There were 6 of us, and we each got something different. And every one of them was incredible. The taste was amazing. And I will absolutely go back here. Anytime I’m in town for a lunch. It was that good

I have lived in downtown Augusta, GA for 25+ and Hildebrandt’s was a loooong time local legend even then. After a delightful greeting from the host/cashier/manager/MVP you make your way past the dining area with ACTUAL antique/vintage wooden tables, some with and some without the leafs in place creating dining options for various sizes of hroups, and wooden chairs placed around each table. A scene that would not be out of place in any of great/grand parents’ dining room. Once at the counter, you will have either looked over the menus placed along the path approaching the counter or start your education in what they have to offer. A deli sandwich from classics like the Club to any of the custom creations this “German, and Southern” family owned establishment has to offer. Once your meal has been ordered and paid for, have a seat or walk through and take in the displays honoring the rich history of a truly legendary local business and family. There are some beverages that are self serve in PITCHERS on a beverage counter like un/sweet tea, lemonade, and water or you have options with the bottled beverages as well. While some will remember the grocery store that served the community for decades, the only wares you’ll find here currently are the candy options as you exit the building. They may still offer deli meats/cheeses, but you’ll have to inquire yourself when you visit.
If you live in the area and haven’t been to Hildebrandt’s, make it a mission to visit soon! And if you are visiting, do yourself a favor and bring a local friend that hasn’t been. It will forever crown you a connoisseur of local dining hidden gems.

Amazing to find a place as old as this, still working and still offering tasty sandwiches. The German potato salad was delicious and the cucumber Dill salad was also tasty and very fresh. A place to repeat.

This place was so cute and unique. Finally tried it for the first time yesterday and the sweet old man who took our order told us all the history about the building, owners, and Hilderbrandt’s. It was fascinating. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was great.

Amazing sandwiches – pastrami was simple but top quality beef. The wait was a bit much and the area by the kitchen can be remodeled and keep it’s 1800’s feel and value. Sack of Potatoes next to the toilet paper rolls by the bathroom

We love this local restaurant. They have the BEST sandwiches around and their German potato salad is absolutely delicious. They are a bit slow as they have a small staff and the building needs work, but the food makes it worth the stop! Pictured is the Rachel.
