We were in Charlottesville just for the day, and the absolute highlight was our meal at Holly’s Diner. Sometimes it’s the simplest things done perfectly—and Holly’s nails it. A simple cheese sandwich was outstanding, and the BLT was truly delicious. Both came with a fresh, tasty side salad, incredible homemade pickles, and real fries (not frozen, not packaged—just the real deal!).
Everything tasted thoughtful, fresh, and made with care. Warm, unpretentious food that reminds you why diners are special. We’ll absolutely be back next time we’re in Charlottesville—Holly’s is a must-stop.

Unassuming at the facade, warm and charming as you enter. Eclectic decor like the winner winner chicken dinner sign at the bar tells me I have found my people. Interesting menu executed well. I had delicious fish tacos. Next visit i’m trying the poblano corn pot pie. Service was very friendly and attentive. We didn’t stay long enough for open mic on Wednesday but will remedy this next visit!

Parking is limited but you can park on the street or in the business parking across from the diner. Unpretentious, Cheers-like diner. They have booths and tables to choose from. It is a small place with a raised platform for the various activities there like karaoke. I imagine it could be pretty loud. We arrived around 5 pm on a Tuesday in January. There were only a couple tables taken. The service wasn’t the fastest … or slowest. The wait staff was friendly enough but not overly chatty. Ding – they only serve wine by the glass, and it’s not very good wine. In this bustling wine region of Charlottesville, they offer no local wines. The menu is fairly small but there are enough options to please just about anyone. My spouse and I shared the Farmhouse wedge salad and the meatloaf. And that was a good thing as the servings are huge. We couldn’t even finish our split meal. The wedge salad was a variation of the norm. It had corn and black bean salsa, tomatoes, red onions, blue cheese crumbles and ranch dressing. I’m a die-hard wedge salad eater so I prefer the original, but this salad was still good. The meatloaf came with mashed potatoes which were just ok because they were kind of dry. However, with enough of the tasty gravy, we made do. The brussels sprouts were roasted and tasted very good. They were my favorite. The meatloaf was pretty good. The prices are very decent especially considering the size of the servings. We would return.

I wish I could leave a zero-star review. I order food from here all the time—the same thing every time, just a burger. The only difference this time was that I decided to order in person at the bar.
I wanted to have a beer while I waited for my burger to go, so I sat at the bar. I’m not sure what was wrong with the bartender, but it seemed to me that she was unprepared for her shift. From the moment I walked in around 5:30 p.m., she was constantly complaining about the sudden rush and how she was the only one working. That’s fine and understandable.
After about 20 minutes and finishing my beer, she asked if I wanted another. Honestly, I was considering it. I asked how much longer my burger would take, and she just blew up at me—going on about how she was the only person working, that she didn’t know the kitchen’s timeline, and she was just blatantly pissy.
I get that customer service can be frustrating—I really do. But I declined another drink, and eventually my food came out. The most disappointing part of the entire experience wasn’t even the poor service—it was the quality of the food. I could literally count how many French fries I got, and to spare the details, it was sparse- unlike it is normally! The burger sucked, the bartender berated me, and honestly, I should’ve just gone to Firefly across the street.

Just passing through from Williamsburg and Monticello, on the way to Harrisonburg and National Park. What a special find! Really yummy and distinctive food, great welcoming service. So glad we wandered in!

I’ll recommend the spot despite the female bartender working afternoon shift. I think she’s in the wrong job. Love the food here and the bands are great! Lose the bartender and this spot is 5 stars.

We have been on a multi-month road trip and have been eating out a lot. Holly’s Diner is one of the best experiences we’ve had in a long while. They have an interesting menu and clearly care about food quality – something that is increasingly rare in restaurants. They had plenty of vegetarian options, including a veggie burger. Prices are super reasonable too.
We also happened to show up during a Game Night and had the pleasure of having a game master lead us through a board game. It was completely unexpected and fun.

Great food, good service. Definitely recommend. Street parking, though not difficult to find.
Food cooked fresh, very good, a hidden gem. Mixed drinks were good, great happy hour specials.
Burger seemed to be hand patted, great flavor. French fries where good. Meatloaf was very good, mashed potatoes, and roasted brussel sprouts. Fish tacos had a great flavor, crispy and fresh. The slaw was good, as was the homemade pico. The Ruben sandwich was also one of the best.
Add to the food, they often have special effects such as live music, and this becomes as great night out.
