Reviews
The ambiance is upscale but also warm and inviting. It’s a large space with clear separation between the bar side and sit down side. The bar side looked comfortable with cozy, tapas style tables.
Our server was very nice and knowledgeable on both the menu and specials. Very attentive and couldn’t have asked for better.
The food was exquisite. Fresh, flavorful, and so intentionally made that it makes you appreciate what you’re eating.
The Garlic Focaccia Bread was so soft and fresh.
The Spaghetti and Meatballs were fantastic with just the right amount of fresh sauce tossed with the pasta.
The Agnolotti was rich and was gone very soon after hitting the table.
The Green Peppercorn Special was something you wish they would put on the menu full time.
I cannot wait to come back here. If you haven’t tried il Giallo yet, do yourself a favor and make a reservation immediately.
Our reservation was for 6:45p. We arrived at 6:30p and was sat almost immediately. The hostess was very friendly. Not sure of her name, but she had I believe red/auburn colored hair.
Atmosphere- It looked like your typical Italian restaurant. A little more “upscale” feel. I was worried from pictures I seen that we might be sitting on top of others, but it was the appropriate amount of space.
Service- Our server was Tracy. She was very nice and very attentive. She helped me make a decision for my dish and it was perfect.
Food
Starters- We started out with the Foccasia and Calamari. Both were VERY good. We had the garlic Foccasia. I would say I expected it to be a little bigger than what we received. One, based off the pictures and other plates we seen. Secondly, we have cruised on Virgin Voyages and their Foccasia is probably THE BEST I have ever had, so that is the level I want every time I order some. Again, it was very good. Just seemed small/thin.
The calamari was SO GOOD! veggies could have been a little crispier for me. Me and my husband split a ceasar salad. It was good.
Entree- My Husband ordered the Frutti di Mare, he said it was very good. Our daughter had Spaghetti. It seems simple, but she said it was delicious. Our son had Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine. I do think this was a little pricey for such a simple dish, but he enjoyed it. I had the Lasagna Matta. It was very good. Flavorful and filling.
Drink- I ordered the Brutus’ Betrayal. I always drink out of straws. Always. Even at home. When I took a sip, it was like a spoonful of salt went down my throat. Caught me completely off guard. I tried to stir the drink, took another sip, more salt. I guess it just sat at the bottom of the glass, but even without a straw, I still would’ve consumed all of that just drinking out the glass. It was a lot. I kind of just used the straw to drink from the top.
We were celebrating our daughter’s birthday, so I let the server know. They brought her a dessert with the plate decorated beautifully. When we got the bill, I seen a charge for the dessert. I thought that was odd being how she didn’t get to choose the dessert. It was just brought to us. Also, I have NEVER had to buy a birthday dessert before. It was only $3, but if we are paying, she should’ve been given the opportunity to choose what she wanted.
One major thing I want to point out is who I believe was the Chef or maybe the manager(?). He was at the window handing the food to the runners. I watched him wipe his nose with his hand! He did not wash his hands after. He just wiped it on his chef’s jacket. It was very disgusting and in my opinion, should not be tolerated. He was not there at the time our food was brought out thank goodness! But that is honestly gross. And it was not a quick dab of the nose. It was like he used his hand as an alternative to tissue.
All in all, we would probably return, but I think a few things, ESPECIALLY with the chef/Manager should be addressed and corrected.
UPDATE: They asked me to send an email so they could make things right. I sent an email almost 3 weeks ago and never heard from them, nor did they send anything. I think it’s important to update anyone who is reading reviews so they understand that businesses may just be saying this to appear as though they want to do right by a Patron when in reality that is not the case.
There was a RR issue that I reported to the 3 hostesses-who did not have any guests arriving who seemed not concerned, I waited in front of them for 15 minutes after my meal and did not see anyone address it. we left.
For dessert, we shared bread pudding and tiramisu. We were impressed.
Only recommendation would be to please please season your snapper and improve on the portions served.
I asked to speak to a manager and was put on hold. I hung up after 11 minutes as I am scared to see how much the roaming charges in Aruba are going to cost me. I felt horrible when I called my mom and told her I couldn’t make it happen. I hope she and her croonies never order from there again. There are over 500 seniors living at her place and I would say this was an epic fail. There was life before websites and I will never understand why they couldn’t or should I say wouldn’t take the order over the phone to make a sick old lady happy.
Shame on you il Giallo
