They also have crayons at every table to pass the time while you wait.
Me and Bob Cantu’s Pizza and Sports Bar did get off to a shaky start, however, as I showed up to watch the Stanley Cup Finals only to find the game was not on any of the 10+ televisions!! The situation was quickly remedied though as the delightful young gentleman behind the bar was happy to get the game on the main TV and crank the volume. Upon each subsequent visit, the staff has been happy to go above and beyond to help get any requested sporting event on one of the televisions, even when I want to watch my sad Angels lose in tragic fashion. So for me, as someone who had been yearning for my go-to spot to watch sports in a social setting, Bob Cantu’s Pizza and Sports Bar does deliver.
Now for the food… We also got off to a bit of a shaky start here as I had been craving a chicken parm sandwich, and showed up to find they had run out of bread! For a short while, this was an absolute tragedy for me, however, out of this tragedy, came my first interaction with the pizza of Bob Cantu’s Pizza and Sports Bar, and let me tell ya.. this is some bitchin ‘za. It fills the void that was created in my local pizza tapestry when Village Host Pizza shut down. They deliver a perfectly thick dough sat atop a firm base that hits just the right level of crisp and crunch that contrasts and complements the pillowiness of the upper layers. I was also very impressed with the quality of toppings. The artichoke hearts on the gourmet chicken and bacon are truly some of the most enjoyable I have ever consumed.
When I did come back and get my hands on the chicken parm sandwich, i was initially puzzled by the open face presentation, but ended up really enjoying this style by the time it was all said and done. The structural build of the sandwich, had it been traditional closed face, with all the chicken breasts sandwiched against each other would be overwhelming and need a significant squish to reduce down to bite size. That compression would inevitably produce sauce leakage, which cannot be tolerated, so I am now an open face believer.
Oh speaking of sauce.. another absolutely vital element of the overall experience for me is forthcoming sauce provision. The Staff at Bob Cantu’s Pizza and Sports Bar are happy at every turn to provide a ranch dressing, an extra side of marinara, you name it. Sides of sauce with a smile can truly be a make or break factor of continued patronage for me at a restaurant so I really appreciate the jovial “yessir here ya go!” in response to my various sauce requests.
My primary gripe with Bob Cantu’s Pizza and Sports Bar is beer selection. As a sports bar, I believe an expansion of the tap numbers is warranted, but this establishment is still a newer one so I will give them the benefit of the doubt and believe they will be increasing the offerings over time. I am looking forward to the dawn of my first NFL season with Bob Cantu’s Pizza and Sports Bar as a viewing location!
Definitely will be back.
