Staff was great. I ordered the trio platter and cup of crab soup. It was all okay …nothing I would return for.
Soup- nothing special ..just tasted like canned soup.
Fried seafood was okay…very bland..some seasoning would help.
Pasta salad side was served warm in some red sauce…never have seen that and definitely not good.
Hush puppies – these were the winner of all the items I ordered.
Pricing was reasonable for what was ordered.

This is a little diner in a shopping plaza which seemed odd for a seafood place, but hey it works! There were 3 of us. One ordered the haddock fish sandwich basket with grits & cheese & an upcharge of sweet potato fries. It came with 2 hushpuppies & coleslaw. The sandwich bread was really too thick, but all was good, no complaints. Another ordered the catfish basket with fries and it came with hushpuppies & coleslaw, he ordered fries and baked beans for sides. He didn’t personally care for the beans, but nothing was really wrong with them, just personal preference. I ordered the trio platter with fish, oysters & shrimp. They came with several onion rings, perfectly cooked, hush puppies & coleslaw. I ordered grits & cheese & apple juice steamed carrots. I am a carrot lover, never met a carrot I didn’t like, until today. They would be a pass for me in the future. The shrimp was just a minute(ish) overcooked giving it a tougher chew but had good flavor. The fish & oysters were totally on point, delicious & cooked perfectly. The oysters were decent size & plump. I enjoyed them. Both of us who had grits & cheese really liked them, they were perfect. We had no coleslaw eaters in the group, thus we have no rating on that. I was the only one who eats hushpuppies, they were really good. I didn’t care for the sweet tea, at all, compared to most southern style sweet tea, it just wasn’t good.

So, overall we liked everything but it wasn’t anything to make us run back for more. Still, if we were in the area, I would go back.

It felt a bit pricey for lunch & the atmosphere, but they have rent and other bills to pay, too. Overall it was a solid meal, not perfect, but good. Important to note, we came in pretty late for a lunch and way too early for dinner. We were seated and tended to immediately. No one else was dining at the time. Drinks were brought very fast. She offered to take orders right away, yet gave us time to review the menu instead, and she answered several questions for us.

The server was excellent, accommodating and had a good sense of humor. She tolerated my husband’s sarcastic the spirit intended and she was funny, too. They have plenty of great parking & weren’t in the messy mix of the walking parts of Mt Dora. Check them out if you are in the area.

We discovered the whale tail fish house in Mount Dora while watching a YouTuber going to different restaurants, and this was one of them. So we decided to give it a try it, not a very big place inside, but quaint. We were greeted by our waitress. She was very friendly and polite we. Ordered.
Broiled Haddock, fried clams, and oysters. Along with a couple of appetizers, One order of Hush Puppies 1 order of their awesome onion rings We will return you can bet on that. Definitely give this location a try.we returned 6-22 for another great meal , we ordered the full belly clams, and the clam strips again. They were both very good. We had the same waitress. I don’t know if she’s the only one that works there, but she does an excellent job. Thank you. If you’re wondering, we drive a little bit over an hour to get to this location but it’s definitely worth it .

I’m a Floridian, never really cared for NE seafood but this was simply awful.

Fishy tasting over cooked scallops and a poor piece of dolphin that was cooked into a large rubber band consistency.

No seasoning even though the scallops were listed as lemon butter broiled and I ordered the dolphin blackened.

The service was superb. But couldn’t save the food experience.

I really wanted to like it……

I had, what I believe to be, scallop medallions within their seafood duo meal. Scallop medallions are made by binding small sea scallops together with natural protein binder and molding them into an organic shape. These were mushy inside of their heavy breading with very little scallop taste.
We also had their whole belly clams, a dish popular in the New England region of America, are ordered two main ways; either as clam strips or whole belly clams. Both are fried, and the strips are simply the clam with the belly removed. A whole belly clams refers to an entire clam that has been breaded and fried. We were disappointed in these as well. Perhaps their mixed reviews are in part to various personnel in the kitchen.

Small place in strip center – clean, server was attentive and friendly. We ordered a variety- fried clam strips(excellent),fried cat fish, broiled and blackened scallops, whole clam bellys(all good),cheese grits(very good),great onion rings and hush puppies. Only fair on lemon-broiled shrimp(not much taste). We’ll go back to try crab cakes – better call ahead to make sure they have them. Good experience.

Definitely an underwhelming experience. The clam chowder was so much like canned soup from the grocery store that I wouldn’t be surprised it was. Same for the hush puppies…too uniform to be homemade made there. So, that makes me now wonder about the clams I had.

Fish is great, so are the onion rings, I had the early bird shrimp, fries and cole slaw with a fresh brewed unsweet ice tea… SO GOOD ! For the food adventure try the boiled soft shell blue crab sandwich, so soft you eat it shell and all ! For a big meal or just a snack the fish is waiting for you !
