I could get a great taste for vegetarian dishes at Masala Hut. Gobi Manchurian and Veg Biriyani was proper Kerala style and reminded me a few stalls back hometown. Oothappam was good, but not the best. Nice Lassi, Tea and Coffee.
Overall a great experience.
The place is neat and well-maintained. The new management has done an excellent job preserving the taste of homely Kerala food.
This is a great Kerala restaurant. The service is very quick, and the food is delicious—it truly reminds you of home. We had their non-veg meals, which were served in generous portions, and the fish fry was great. They offer both veg and non-veg meals.
Next time I’m here, I’ll definitely try their porotta. The prices are reasonable, and the beef was good too. They also offer takeout.
We visited for the second time, and even though their dine-in closes at 4:30 PM, they were kind enough to let us in, knowing we had driven from Austin just to enjoy Kerala food. Really appreciate their hospitality!
Update: The porotta was very soft—just like how you get it back in Kerala. We also tried their cutlet, and it was good. Definitely a must-visit!
Good food. Good quantity and quality. The place maintained the standards set by the previous management or even exceeded them. The service was professional and respectful. The place clean and well maintained. I found the food to be a bit spicy than what I usually enjoy. However I won’t count it against them as this is what’s usually expected for most Kerala cousine. I tried their fish curry meals and it was great. Their ada payasam, sambar, and their pulli inji stood out. I will definitely continue recommending this place for good Kerala meals.
Highly recommend this place for Kerala food. The couple that runs this restaurant is very accommodating and friendly. Clean and well maintained. Good food and good quality. I come here all the way from Austin just to have some fish curry meals. Their parotta is really soft and flaky. Fish fry, beef cutlets, meals… All really good.
They serve kerala rice and was bit pricey -$32 for 2 ppl hence 4 stars against the dishes.
Fish curry was more of masala and pickle was ok but rest of food was good.
Staffs came to desk and ensured all items are served and there was decent crowd in restaurant when visited. Happy Dining
We ordered a large number of dishes – Kerala meals, kappa, chicken ularthiyathu, beef curry, appam, Porotta and fish fry.
The neymeen fry was fresh and to die for. Kerala meals paysam was just the perfect sweetness and consistency.
Will definitely go here again when I’m visiting Houston again. Highly recommend.
The meal was delicious
Prices under $20 for each meal
Will definitely be back to try more of what’s on the menu
