I was very impressed with this sushi place and it’s probably my new favorite now. They had a good ratio of rice to fish that I absolutely love. All the fish is very fresh. The escalor was so fresh and savory it just melted in my mouth. My favorite is probably the jalapeno poppers. I like mine without the crab but it was so good. I highly recommend this restaurant. They have a great menu. Everyone was extremely friendly and attentive. The friendly atmosphere makes it so much more enjoyable.

No way this place is 5 stars. Who are all these people with such low standards…

This place could have been a solid 3 star AYCE sushi option. However, I encountered a few glaring deficiencies. The scallops were the worst I’ve ever had at a sushi restaurant. The consistency is completely off. I ended up eating only one and poking the other to verify it was the same.

All of the fish pieces taste ‘wet’ – like they’ve been stored in the fridge just a little too long. The fish doesn’t bite clean, instead it’s stringy.

As far as service, I sat at the sushi bar and multiple orders were completely missed or forgotten.

We were told to leave our empty dishes on the counter. They ended up stacking up as our server just kept walking past them.

I will likely skip umi in the future.

I love the freshness of the fish. The nigiri has the right amount of rice and it’s good nice, not dry old rice. The hot food are served fresh and warm to the order. Prices are adorable for the delicious food as you watch the chefs make the rolls and delivers them. DELICOOUS!!!!

It’s probably not often that someone orders tea here but if you like to have tea with your sushi I have some bad news. If you try to enjoy tea with your group they will tell you that you need to pay for more cups. I explained to the owner that tea is often shared with small cups among a party and the pot is intended to be shared. I always said he didn’t need to provide me with another pot of tea but more cups. He refused.
We enjoy the sushi but paying more for cups to enjoy tea is ridiculous. We won’t be back. Don’t open a sushi restaurant if you don’t anything about Japanese cuisine.

We really enjoy coming to Umi Sushi. Every time we visit, we are warmly welcomed, and the staff—both the guys and the girls—are always friendly and welcoming. It truly makes you want to come back. The food is very good and consistently enjoyable, and what really stands out is how fast the sushi arrives, even when the place is full. That’s something you don’t find everywhere. Overall, it’s a great experience and a place we’re always happy to return to.

I usually love this place because they have smaller rolls and you can try more things. The food is always good but the last time we were there the service was the worst. Slow, had to ask for things we ordered. Never once did our waiter ask us how we were doing or even check in on us. We had to ask everytime we wanted another round of all you can eat with big gaps of time in between. We had to ask for our bill twice. There were only 2 other tables in the restaurant . The staff was in the back whooping it up. At the end of the meal when our server finally brought us our check he was all smiles and gushing. Looking for a big tip? Usually have great service here but not this last time.

Ok whoever is writing reviews about fast service, you’re so wrong. The service here is the absolute slowest and worse I’ve ever experienced at any AYCE place in Reno. We were never asked about drinks after the initial order. We ordered multiple rolls that never came.

They also failed their inspection in July and regained a passing grade in September. I don’t like to fault a restaurant for doing better however, based on the quality of the food we received and lack of carelessness, I can see how they failed before.

Tried it once and will never go back.

Went there with the wife and had dinner since neither felt like cooking. A friend recommended it.
Great call. The rice in the sushi rolls was thinner than other places, which gave the whole roll a much better flavor. They didn’t skimp on the ingredients either. Jose made our food, and when we engaged him, he was funny and great company. They are all artits with the food. It is all beautiful.
And the quail egg shooters were on point!

Excellent ayce sushi. We really enjoyed the way they make their rolls smaller than the average sushi roll- less rice more fish for a really convenient way to enjoy them. The Nigiri was made the same way. Every roll or Nigiri we ordered was filled with fresh fish and made fast. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the great service.

I read reviews that this place was pretty good, so decided to give it a try. Main thing I notice is the portions of the rolls and nigiri are both smaller than the usual sizing of most other places. This is a good thing as you can try more foods and not get all filled up on a few rolls.

The inside is nice and modern and clean. I think it’s best to sit at the bar, so you can communicate with the chef directly and the service is faster too. The sushi was good quality and mostly the rice to fish ration was good. Thin layers of rice on the rolls, so you don’t get stuffed with rice. The salmon roe was better than most other sushi places. It all depends on how a place handles the caviar as all places get it from the same supplier in town. THe Eel nigiri was some of the best I’ve had, try that!

We got our fill and FREE sake Monday -Thursday 2-5pm. Price for lunch is $26 + tax and tip, so ends up around $34 to $35 bucks … not a lunch price I can do every week, but maybe once a month or more.
