We celebrated Thanksgiving at The Cave. The food was delicious! Really enjoyed it. Well done!!
The only issue was the service. The server was not good.
It was our first time at The Cave. We noticed some people were using the wine dispenser machines. When I asked about it and how it works, he just said “you need a credit card for that” then ran away.
I think it would be great if the server actually explain the specialities and how this restaurant works. So we just decided to have 1 drink for the night.
We were 3 people and the plates were not coming at the same time. Usually only 2, then wait a few minutes to have someone notice a plate was missing.
The 3 course meal was prepaid but when it was time to pay the drinks, the server (who barely speak or explain the menu) didn’t forget to tell us that the tips were not included on the drinks. So clearly wanted more tips. (Gratuity was included on the meal/person.)
I was expecting better on the service from this place tbh… I had the feeling because the gratuity was already included and the meal was prepaid, the server just did the bare minimum…

The Cave is a great spot for both purchasing and tasting wines. They offer an impressive selection, and it’s a fun place to explore new varietals. The food is good, and the service is consistently friendly. Just be aware that tasting costs can add up quickly, and when the restaurant is crowded, it can get a bit noisy. Overall, a very enjoyable experience and worth a visit.

When looking for a restaurant with a good wine selection that was convenient to our hotel, my husband and I were fortunate to fine The Cave in Ventura. One could never tell from the location or parking lot that such a neat place was there. The atmosphere was that of an old wine cellar in Europe! There’s even a patio. The Cave has wine dispensers where customers can try many wines by the ounce or glass which looked like fun for curious customers. Our server Gilbert was knowledgeable and made a great recommendation when we wanted to try a particular type of wine. He has been there for many years and it showed in his professional manner. Our meals were also very good and came beautifully presented. Lastly Michel helped us choose a variety of wine to take with us, all at very reasonable prices which was just icing on a wonderful evening.

So welcoming, friendly and professional, yet laid back and very knowledgeable about food and wines. Love this place. If we ever come back to California (due to government regulations on tractor-trailers, we will not be returning) definitely be dining here and bringing friends. Thank you to our server, host, and chef we had an outstanding time here. A way to taste wine on your own with unique wine dispensers that keep the bottles sealed and at the correct temperature. Just a great experience all around.

I recently visited The Cave Restaurant and Ventura Wine Company. I hadn’t been there in years and was thinking it would only be appetizers or small plates. It was a pleasant surprise to enjoy such a quality meal and delicious wine and bubbly selection. We were in the back room a bit away from the bustle of the main area, where we could have a conversation. My friend and I shared their Prix Fixe Weekday Meal which consisted of an appetizer and dessert to share along with an entree for each. We decided to add a bottle of French bubbly. We started off with the cranberry cave salad which was so fresh and crisp. It was served on one long plate that we had to portion out ourselves. I would suggest plating it up separately for convenience to the guests. For dinner my friend had the Eggplant Parmesan and I had the Ahi Tuna. It was the best tuna I’ve ever eaten. The pieces were firm and flaky with just the right amount of crust for flavor. The eggplant was served over spaghetti and was a cheesy crisp and delight. Both dishes were mouth watering goodness! We chose a lighter dessert of fresh berries with Italian Zabaione. The perfect blend of flavors to end an amazing meal. Do not miss this gem!
