The puffy tacos are good—crispy, light, and the clear standout. The beans and rice were just okay, nothing memorable. The interior is rustic and old-school, which fits the drive-in vibe.
Parking is rough, with a small, tight lot, especially when it’s busy.
Worth a stop for the puffy tacos if you know what to expect and plan ahead for parking.

Fantastic I cannot wait to go back. I had the puffy tacos. Taco meat a bit bland needs to be seasoned. Best rice and beans I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back. The atmosphere is old style and cozy. A piece of San Antonio history. Definitely a must to take you out of town company to for authentic West side Mexican food! You won’t be disappointed. Someone told me the taco meat is always seasoned so I assume I just got an off day. It was still the best puffy tacos I’ve ever had

Such a fun and eclectic place to eat at. Love all the memorabilia, pictures and decor. Service was amazing and the food was even better. This place is the #1 puffy taco place for a reason. Their version is the original and it shows … It was perfect. We will drive across town in the near future to eat here because it is that good.

A San Antonio native but this is my first time in 20yrs since I’ve been at Ray’s. I told my children as we past by about it’s long standing history. Today I went alone to see for myself about this restaurant. Unfortunately it was not the best. It didn’t look two busy. As I was seated others arrived after me but was served their food before me. Thought that’s ok maybe my plate takes longer to make. As I anticipated my plate, thinking it was going to be great. The steak, rice and beans were cold. The only thing hot was the fries and the like warm tortillas were hard. I was never asked if everything was okay. To top it off as I went to go pay for my cold meal two people behind the register said they could not take my payment but had to go to another register to pay. I’ll just chunk this as a $20 lesson not to return nor bring my kids to eat here. Sry but that’s the honest truth. Have a great day.

Nice experience at Ray’s. Service was friendly and quick for a party of 5x on a Saturday for lunch with about 2/3 of the tables full. Sound level made it difficult at times to hear each other. Puffy Tacos were rated as very good, but the heat of the meat was lost too quickly on all of them due to the cold fixings, that is why I can’t give it a 5 star for food. Other items, particularly the onion rings, were excellent. Parking was a bit difficult to find.

Loved the antique items on display. The food was delicious, staff was friendly, prompt, and patient, and the prices were just right It can get a bit cold depending on where you sit….suggest bringing a light jacket. Overall, was pleased and will return to try more dishes. ✨️

Heard about the famous San Antonio “Puffy Tacos” on YouTube. So we had to try it, and where better than Ray’s. For the Puffy tacos, I tried the beef and chicken variants. I was blown away. So good! I left in a food coma. I don’t know when I will be back in San Antonio, if ever, but if I do, I will eat here again! Thank you so much to everyone at Ray’s. This is truly a must stop place.
