First time customer, ordered a random assortment of items for me and my husband. We had them delivered since we are feeling under the weather. Everything was absolutely delicious. Really enjoyed it. The pastrami sandwich was the star — tender, flavorful, and piled just right. Service was kind and genuinely friendly.
Sides were okay, just didn’t hit the same level as the sandwich. Still, I’d definitely go back for the pastrami.

Amazing food, service and atmosphere! The Rabbi is a very welcoming and friendly man who makes you feel like a regular, even on your first visit. The food is impeccable, large portions and made to your preference. Also features a small grocery section, along side some art and literature for sale as well. Bread is baked fresh, in-house. The Rabbi told me he’s been working here for close to 25 years, and the deli started as a co-op 30 odd years ago! And after visiting here, its easy to see why this place is still around and doing so well!

I went to Maccabees yesterday for a pastrami sandwich. I love a good pastrami sandwich, but i didn’t find it here. The pastrami itself was somewhat chewy and a little stringy, as well as dry. That’s because it wasn’t steamed. It was sliced, put on a roll, and warmed in a microwave oven. It was also extremely lean. Good pastrami requires some fat to give it some flavor. The service was excellent. The entire place needs overhauled. It needs a good cleaning and a trash can for the customers that eat there. And lastly, marbeled rye would not be my first choice of bread. A regular Jewish seeded rye or even an onion roll would be preferable.
Please get a steamer for your pastrami. I’d be there on a regular basis for a GOOD pastrami.

Food was AMAZING! We will definitely come back to try other sandwiches and sides. I HIGHLY recommend trying out their turkey pastrami, was a fantastic experience. 🙂

I thought it was so awesome to get a cup of pudding with my sandwich!! The sandwich was phenomenal and came with the BEST pickle but when I saw the pudding I didn’t know how to react. It literally changed my life and made me feel so loved. I had no idea how much I needed that pudding and I don’t know if it was the sandwich or the pudding but the love…. Changed my life.

This store is amazing, It’s a deli with a small kosher grocery store, probably the only kosher store in all of Iowa, which is a huge lifesaver for those who keep kosher. The food is delicious, super cheap, and the portions are huge and fresh. I got a pastrami sandwich and a schnitzel sandwich with came with fries, all for under $25, which is way cheaper than almost any other kosher stores which would probably double for what I orderd
The owner is really nice and friendly, and the overall atmosphere is amazing

I went on a Wednesday at 12:15. I had the Roosevelt sandwich, a side of macaroni salad, a pickle and a diet black cherry Dr. Brown’s soda. The star of the show was that sandwich! It was on a marble rye bread. I don’t care for rye, but that sure didn’t stop me from enjoying that sandwich. Next time I’ll ask for a different bread. The pastrami was excellent. Pastrami is not something I’ve eaten very often, but trust me, I’ll be back for another one of those sandwiches. Service was good, nice friendly people. There is a little grocery area, a gift section and a table for dine in. There’s not a lot of room for dine in, but it’s open. Staff was wearing masks. This is close to my place of employment, so I’ll be back often.
