My wife and I had a fantastic Sunday brunch today at La Fonda on Main in San Antonio, and it was one of those meals that reminds you why slow weekend mornings matter. From the moment we sat down, the atmosphere was warm, lively, and welcoming—exactly what you want from a long-standing San Antonio favorite.

We started with the classic chips and dips trio: fresh salsa, creamy queso, and perfectly seasoned guacamole. Simple and familiar, but executed so well that it set the tone for the entire meal.

For her entrée, my wife ordered the Chef’s Benedictos: Salmon Croquettes—a standout dish featuring panko-crusted salmon croquettes topped with poached eggs and a silky habanero-dill hollandaise. The plate came with papas locas and a buñuelo fruit cup, adding both comfort and brightness to the meal. She absolutely loved it.

I went for the Hamburguesa Mexicana, and it did not disappoint. A hearty prime Akaushi beef patty crowned with a sunny-side-up egg, chili-cheese Fritos, black beans, roasted salsa, Oaxacan cheese, chipotle aioli, and a blistered toreado—stacked on a sourdough bun and served with fries. Big, bold flavors and a perfect brunch indulgence.

One of the highlights wasn’t even on the menu—we had a genuinely pleasant conversation with a woman sitting at the neighboring table. Friendly people and good conversation always elevate the experience, and today was no exception.

If you’re looking for a place in San Antonio that delivers great food, welcoming service, and a relaxed weekend vibe, La Fonda on Main is absolutely worth the visit. Highly recommended.

My wife and I had to get out of Dodge (S.A.) and get back to Houston because of the 2026 January Arctic Blast. Right before leaving, we heard about this place from the lady that runs “The Twig” book store in The Pearl. She told someone else about it, not us, but we still eavesdropped and thought it was meant to be.

Boy, was it ever meant to be.

Y’all. This place is fantastic. The service was top tier and the food was incredible. Maybe the best pancake of my life. We stayed with Horchata Iced Lattes. I got the ‘Carne Asada a La Tampiquena’ on the brunch menu, as recommended by the waiter. My wife got the Fajita Enchiladas. Both were delicious! The Chips and Salsa/Queso were free as we were first timers. The salsa was a great sweet flavor and you could tell the queso was made with real cheese. It was delicious. We were so impressed by this restaurant and we will be back with more family!

My wife and I went to LA Fonda for dinner. We had RSVP and we were sat within 10 mins of arriving. We had appetizer, and a couple drinks, then dinner. All of our food was really tasty and we didnt have the usual amount of leftovers. It was so good we ate it! Prices are in line with other restaurants of this type. Our waiter was good, but we felt a little rushed. We got there at 8, so main dinner rush was over but waiter was still in ,”rush” mode and suggested we order dinner at same time as appetizer. Kitchen had caught up, so our dinner came just a few mins after app. Then after dinner, we ordered some Flan…which we thought was best we ever had…and waiter brought bill at same time. Good waiter, just misread kitchen. We wanted a slow relaxing dinner but it went really fast. Small issue, overall we really enjoyed our experience.

Family and I had dinner here tonight while visiting San Antonio. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. I had the Fajita Enchiladas. My wife had the Pollo Milanesa. My daughter had the chicken nachos and my son had the Tex-Mex deluxe. They loved their dishes as well! Our waitress Daisy was very attentive and did a great job! Highly recommend this place!

When I want to introduce someone to the very best Mexican cuisine San Antonio has to offer, this is my first choice. It remains my favorite in the city, consistently delivering exceptional flavor and quality. I always order the Tex-Mex Deluxe, which never disappoints. I also recommend the frozen cactus margarita. You should make a reservation in advance.

What an amazing experience. Beautifully restored building with outdoor seating as well. The food is excellently seasoned with the right hint of spice and char from the wood grill. My server Cesar R couldn’t have been kinder or more attentive to recommending different food selections. The warm chocolate cake with chocolate drizzle, pecans and vanilla bean ice cream with a hint of cinnamon is a must.

I hadn’t been in a while, I really like all the group’s other restaurants and had good experiences here in the past, but was a little disappointed this time. I asked for the Pibil and it had no axiote flavor. Tasted like chicken at best. I had to add salt and sauce from another dish to give it some flavor but still left half of it. When we told our server, he said he’d pass the message along to the kitchen but didn’t offer to either fix or substitute, and we still got charged for it fully. The bed of rice tasted like plastic and the onions also had no flavor.
Also, I don’t really love that they charge for chips and salsa… most restaurants this is free and you’d assume that being more upscale than typical Mexican chains, this wouldn’t be the exception.

Cozy and welcoming spot for classic Mexican food. The dishes came out warm and fresh, and we especially loved the variety of salsas — a few were outstanding! The chips also tasted freshly made, which was a nice touch. Cocktails were on the sweeter side for my taste, but the happy hour prices made them worth trying. Overall, a great place for a relaxed meal and good value.

Another amazing experience…Wow! Spinach salad with avocado and mango at a Mexican restaurant blew my mind! It’s not often that one can get healthy greens like spinach at a Mexican restaurant! Impressive! The queso and salsa were Amazing, and the rice and beans were so delicious as well.
My fajitas were great, I just needed a bit more meat, which was accommodated, and the enchilada verde was a bit tart for me, but was still good.
Overall, another beautiful and really tasty experience.

The food is AMAZING. I ordered a horchata with alcohol, and boy did it hit. For a small drink, it packed a punch, and tasted wonderful. The food was filling. I would absolutely come back and recommend to anyone who visits San Antonio.
