It took a little while to get our food but it was worth the wait. The chips and salsa are $4 but the green salsa is addicting, it was so good. My tacos were so full of shredded beef, I could only finish two of three. They were very good as well as the rice and beans.
My husband ordered an omelet and really enjoyed it. The fried potatoes are home-cooked style like my mom used to make, so I keep stealing a few bites.
All in all, the food is home cooked style with good portions and worth the wait. We will definitely be back to this little gem!
Anyway, I asked if the chimichanga came with a side of rice and beans. “Nope.” Uh, okay that’s fine. Does it come with all the fixings? Lettuce, pico, guac, and sour cream? “Nope. Just the chimi.” I hard passed on that sorry excuse for a chimichanga. 0 out of 13 score on the universal scale of chimichanga deliciousness. Do better, y’all. That’s pathetic.
Almost as pathetic as those refried beans I was telling you about earlier. I had to mix them with the canned enchilada sauces on my breakfast enchilada plate just to get them to go down.
The food fed me; and that’s all I have to say about that. We waited 45 minutes for the kitchen to get their act together. And the restaurant was maybe at 30% capacity. Sorry to say, not worth the wait.
Our server was great, though. Super sweet and accommodating. But she should consider finding a better restaurant. Don’t be enticed by the cute and inviting decor of El Coronado, or the fact that they have “Family” in their name. This restaurant is a bust.
Chewy refried beans, man. They were chewy!
Huevos rancheros is a must! They have great salsa. You can taste the love in the food.
My family always love coming here. They do charge for chips and salads now but I guess you can blame them because of inflation.
