I thought there would be a happy hour going on at El Patron. We went to the bar around 5:00 and there was nothing other than $5 fireball shots. We sat at a bistro table and were offered menus and water. We ordered off the senior menu. I ordered 2 tacos, smashed beans, and rice. My wife ordered 3 taqiitos with whole beans and rice.
My tacos were ground beef, but the flavor was overwhelmingly textured vegetable protein, served in premade taco shells with a sprinkle of lettuce and even less tomato. I ordered 2 tacos and couldn’t force myself to finish the last one. My wife tried one taquito and left the other 2 on the plate. The serve brought 2 sopapillas. Cold and hard as cardboard. I poured some of the high fructose corn syrup, sugar, with a touch of honey into the stiff cold sopapilla and tried to eat it.
The restaurant is a sham, the service and environment are nice, but the food is the worst New Mexican food I’ve ever eaten.

Came for lunch on a Sunday with my sister and nephew. No wait. We had a relatively new server, Sean, and he was excellent. Even with a large party he was still attentive to our table. The chips and salsa are bomb. Chips are made in house. Thin, warm, the right amount of salt. Food came out fast and to perfection. Guacamole is delicious. Add serano cream sauce to anything and it’s magical. Lol There is also have a great a great happy hour.

What’s good? Fajita, chips, sopapilla, Patron skinny margarita… live music, great service for big parties. The actual structure is a little run down but the food was really good.

After not having been in town for awhile, I needed a good margarita and green chile fix (and some red for Christmas)! This was the perfect spot and I forgot how good it was. The sopapillas were perfect, red chile ribs were hot and delicious. And then the burritos were as equally good!

My experience was just okay. Not bad, but not great. I ordered the lamb rack with chile rellenos. $46 for a very small amount of food, quite disappointing. The lamb was fine, not great. The chile was not spicy, at all, very sad. I also ordered the guacamole “salad” spicy, it wasnt spicy. The redchile also wasnt spicy, it tasted like they added way too much flour to it. Thank god they had some cholula hot sauce, which honestly is really mild itself but at least i was able to get some kind of spicy on my food. The cholula was the hottest thing on my plate which is really sad for dining at a supposed Mexican restaurant. The live music was great, i loved it. The atmosphere was great. All around i may come back here in the future, but i won’t be thinking about it when i get hungry

Great place for new Mexican food. We got a live band to play for us. The fajitas were delicious and the smoked old fashioned was good.

We ordered the steak ranchero that came with cheese and chile, calabacitas, and papitas. Our waitress never told us that they were out of the calabacitas and the substitute was beans and the steak does not come with cheese either. The beans looked dry. The steak was good but that’s all that was good. I asked the waitress about the cheese and the Calabacitas and she got snarky with a little bit of an attitude and said, oh yeah, I know We are out of calabacitas that’s why you have beans and that meal does not come with cheese. I told her it wasn’t a big deal I just wanted to know why it came different than what I read on the menu but she still had a bit of an attitude. She’s lucky that I have a heart and still gave her a decent tip. But I will never come here again due to it being our first experience here that was not so great!

Beautiful restaurant… wall paintings are awesome. Food: Tostada stack (from today’s special) was so good, and surprisingly affordable price.

We visited for an early dinner, about 4:30 pm, I mention the time because that may matter. Had a terrible experience, maybe we caught them between lunch and dinner staff? We were seated quickly, then things slowed down, our first indication that maybe our first visit to El Patron might be challenging. Not wanting to be the cause for delays, we order when the server brings us water. The food arrived quickly, I had chicken fajitas, my wife, the enchilada casserole. My dinner had a fair amount of charring on the meat and vegetables, not enough to ruin it, but more than I have encountered at other restaurants. While we eat, server is nowhere to be found. Luckily, water pitchers are placed around the dining area, so we can serve ourselves. Although other wait staff are around and observe us serving ourselves, nobody steps up and offers any assistance, we continue to make due. As we finished our meal, the server arrives and inquires if we need a box for leftovers. My wife replies that she would like one. The server then looks at my wife’s plate and asks if the food was okay. My wife replies, why? The sever tells her ‘it doesn’t look right’. Both of us are waiting for her to elaborate, she responds by taking the food back to the chef to show him. She returns to update us, stating that the chef says ‘it’s fine’. We have had enough and are ready for the check. The server brings the check, and when I hand her my debit card, she replies ‘do you trust me’? I didnt understand what she was trying to say. When she repeated it, I belive she meant that she would fill in the tip. I replied, no, just bring me the regular ticket. Wow. We drove across town to try El Patron, needless to say, we will not return. There are too many local restaurants serving similar choices to be frustrated during what should have been a relaxing meal.

I’ve been going to el patron for over a decade and they’ve always had great food and service… But……
Now I’ve noticed their portions are comical. I ordered a FAMILY nacho and it comes in a foil boat. I ordered a chips and they put one handful of chips in a to go container with queso that ISN’T their original cheese. This is like a jelly consistency from a Campbell’s can. You’re going to tell me that photo is worth $13 for chips and cheese? Horrible…. You guys need to fix the portions and the quality asap before you lose more business.
