Turner’s Seafood in Salem is located in the historic Salem Lyceum Hall, once the current affairs hub north of Boston where 19th century luminaries, most notably John Quincy Adams, Henry David Thoreau, Frederick Douglass, and Oliver Wendell Holmes lectured on literature, science, politics and government, and where Alexander Graham Bell famously made the first public demonstration of the telephone. The restaurant, oyster bar, patio and 2nd floor function space are a stylish blend of period and modern ~ warmed by antique brick walls and fireplaces ~ a casually elegant space in the heart of Salem, MA, with several nearby parking lots and accessible by MBTA train.

We had a family emergency and needed a nice place for us to have dinner with out of town relatives! What a great choice we made! Turners is such a beautiful restaurant! We sat by one of the fireplaces! The restaurant could not have been busier but we were seated promptly and waited on immediately! Service, ambience and food were superb! Everyone loved their dinners! We shared appetizers and the fried calamari was delish! People loved baked haddock, haddock piccata, special Beef Wellington and lazy man lobster ! Parking can be tricky but public lot is next door and usually available spaces can be found. For dessert, people liked ice cream sundaes and sticky toffee pudding. I advise reservations. They turned away a dozen people while I was at front desk! One of my fave North Shore spots!

Visited on 12/30/2025 while on a trip up to Salem, MA from Florida. Hands down the best Seafood I’ve had yet (and I’m from Florida), the New England style clam chowder is truly the best. During our dining experience the owner of the restaurant actually stepped over to our table to chat and ask how we liked everything, she was extremely welcoming and even told us some history on the restaurant. This is a family owned small business. They do have non-seafood options but I highly recommend to try the clam chowder! The building and atmosphere is wonderful, very homey and chill!

Neat New England style seafood bar… without the bar.
Ok, the bar is being renovated so it’s got plastic up to keep construction dust out of the restaurant. With all that, they did a great job of keeping the place clean and the food was great.
We started with lobster bisque. Try it – it’s phenomenal!!
The food smelled so good, we started eating before I took the pic…so know u will get more fish and another stuffed shrimp!
I had the Hake Marsala and it was a very tasty whitefish – but kinda light on the marsala. My wife had the stuffed shrimp and they were food, but after the lobster bisque, we were expecting better.
Portions were huge and the drinks were pricey, but very strong and filled the glasses! Overall, it’s a very good option in a town filled with similar restaurants.

Having moved to the area recently, so many people recommended Turner’s, and after eating there, we can definitely see why. You can smell how good your food is going to be as soon as you step in the door – there is something for everyone on the menu and it is literally all life-changing. We ordered the clam chowder in a bread bowl (best we’ve ever had), linguine with clams, and shrimp scampi. Everything was cooked to perfection and surprisingly affordable for the greater Boston area. The sticky toffee pudding for dessert was also incredible. Service was lovely and the fireplace felt amazing on a zero degree night in January. The location is right downtown in an easy to access area and the twinkle lights provide a cozy glow. Highly recommend and can’t wait to be back!

Delicious food, wonderful service, warm and inviting atmosphere. Initially, I was seated at a table in the far back of the restaurant by the rear door (this unfortunately happens to me a lot as a solo traveler) but I saw a small both open near the fireplace and requested it. They gladly seated me there and the rest of the evening was great! I had 1/2 dozen oysters, the stuffed clams appetizer, lobster bisque, haddock piccata, and finished with the sticky coffee pudding. I also tried the non-alcoholic version of a French 75, which was perfectly balanced between tart and sweet. Every single dish was delightful, the flavors had depth and worked very well together. I will definitely return!

Visiting from California, we saw how highly rated Turner’s was and decided to give it a try and wow, it absolutely blew us away! We knew seafood in Boston would be good, but this went above and beyond.
The lobster bisque and clam chowder were out of this world. The oysters were fresh and delicious, and the crab cakes were packed with flavor (that unexpected coleslaw pairing was perfect!). The mussels were so good we wanted to drink the broth, and the haddock dinner is an absolute must, cooked to perfection and so flaky and tender.
The highlight, though, was the customer service. Our server Sedona was incredible, so personable, knowledgeable, and attentive. She answered all our questions with such patience and enthusiasm. We even called over the manager, Oscar, to rave about her, and he was just as kind and gracious.
This place truly lives up to its ratings. We can’t recommend it enough!

Worth it to read this whole review: So I consider myself a seasoned foodie…pun intended. My kids, my husband and I went to Turner’s for the very first time after noticing several excellent reviews. I tried Everything we ordered and ordered more than usual. To say this food was top notch amazing is putting it mildly. My seasonal apple cedar cocktail was the best I’ve had, ever! And apple cider is definitely my thing. The seasoning combination in the fish and crab cakes was out of this world delicious! From lobster, to oysters, to fried clams…on point to the highest levels. THIS IS THE BEST FOOD IVE HAD IN YEARS. Although the bites were the star here as they should be, I must mention how friendly, polite, courteous and detailed our server was! She was an incredible server. The atmosphere: beautiful, classy, stunning with the most appetizing aromatic experience! Even my 2 teens and 9 year old cleaned their plates and we all had dessert! (Which never happens!) I had the sticky toffee pudding which is only in the fall and I will say it was heaven on a spoon! Although we live in Cleveland OH area and probably won’t be able to come back for quite some time, it’s officially on my bucket list to be back at least 3 more times! If you’re in Salem, this is a must for places to eat. Be prepared to spend a bit more here but it is, again, very worth it

Very cute restaurant. Great seafood and so many options. The oysters were so tasty. And I love their salad and clam chowder soup. The crab cakes were also really yummy. I think each item was worth the price. I would make a reservation in advance so you don’t have to wait too long outside. A great stop when staying in Salem!
