The food just isn’t good. The potatoes were mushy like they had been cooked with the lid on and steamed. The flavors just weren’t there. I didnt find it worth eating.

The atmosphere is fun but not over the top. There is adequate parking and ample seating while not feeling crowded. The food is simple, well prepared and tastes like my childhood. The star of it all was our server Katie. She is the absolute epitome of a fantastic server. She’s as bright and sunny as her vibrantly colored makeup and nails. Her menu knowledge is beyond accurate, she’s not afraid to make recommendations that improve the dining experience and her competency on the floor shines through in her ability to multitask while making her tables feel like they’re her only responsibility.
Also the kitchen staff must be super squared away because they were slinging hash out almost as fast ast humanly possible.
I happily shower this restaurant with all the accolades possible. My wife and I plan to be regulars.

Had a fantastic breakfast the other morning at Black Bear Diner in Lakewood. From the moment you walk in, it just feels like home—clean, cozy, and welcoming. The service is absolutely top-notch. Vanessa, Jesse, and Tyzhanae not only kept my glass full and brought out hot, delicious food, but also brought great banter and genuine conversation that made the whole experience feel like I was among friends.

What really stands out, though, is how they treat my 86-year-old dad. He walks with a cane and has hearing and vision challenges—and maybe a few dated comments here and there—but they always find a table close by, speak up when needed, and treat him with the same kindness and patience they’d show their own dad or grandpa. That kind of compassion is rare, and it means the world.

Dinner service is just as wonderful. Shelly and the evening crew bring the same warmth and care, making every visit a pleasure.

All in all, this is a truly great family diner—delicious meals, exceptional service, and the kind of place that makes you feel like you belong.

PS

The review from “ Honest Reviewer” is extremely unfair and from a chronic negative reviewer, take it from a regular, this is a great place

Friendly easy going atmosphere. The service was spot on the food was abundant and delicious. I have been a long time dinner at black bear i went to the first one when it opened in Shasta. It’s great to see it still holds the same standards no matter where i go.

Chicken pot pie I just got. I’m not sure how this gloppy mass constitutes a “Tender grilled chicken and vegetables in a creamy chicken gravy topped with a flaky pastry crust.” It’s hot but it’s solidified. It’s disgusting. Should have just made myself a sandwich. Never again.

Our first time there!! Super amazing all around! Robert was our server and did a great job! (Been to many restaurants that service was bad) but here was super great! Atmosphere was very relaxing. Food was amazing to say the least! Definitely putting this as a saved place in my maps to return to!

One of thee best cobb salads around plenty of toppings and let’s talk about the massive dressing. I flop back and forth between the bacon ranch and blue cheese both are delicious.

Was at a business meeting. The private room was accommodating. Loved the American flag on the wall..

Enjoyed the pot roast. Excellent place to get comfort food.

I didn’t have dessert this time, but they are awesome.

Update: visiting with a friend for lunch. Had the parmesan sourdough burger. The fresh fruit side was wonderful and a nice change from fries.

Staff were nice and welcoming. Service was excellent.
