I would like to give this place a 2.5 but I am unable to do so. I ordered a duo platter with ribs, brisket, rice and collard greens. The ribs were dry and very tough (jerky) at the ends. Brisket was also tough at the ends. The collard greens and rice were good and the BBQ sauces were ok. As for the cornbread I like mine with corn in it and not grilled. Tasted like a corn muffin. Overall the platter needed more work on the meats since when you are talking about BBQ you are picturing fall off the bone.

Sorry to write such a bad review, but I think people should know the truth. The Brisket I sampled tasted like cafeteria pot-roast, at BEST. There was no smokey, savory, beefy and peppery flavor. It was just boring, dry, flavorless, stale and very unappealing. The sauces are too sugary and lacking of kick or any substantial flavor. If you want REAL BBQ and actually good food, try Blue Ribbon BBQ in Arlington and Newton. It’s WORLD class. I promise you, I’ve eaten at Blue Ribbon for 11 years with very meal being absolute perfection and a flavor bomb! Plus, the service was bad because the person who was assisting my order, while being nice and polite, was very desperate and pushy to add drinks, deserts or additions onto my order when I did not request them. Presumptuous service and bad food is a double lose in my book.

Mac and cheese was good. Pulled pork was more like pork chunks, brisket was more like jerky, and cornbread was oily and barely warm. Definitely heard them microwaving our food and my roommate got what appeared to me instant mashed potatoes. They also don’t wear gloves when touching your food. Pretty gross — won’t order again.

Horrible horrible food. We took two bites and called for a refund. The burnt ends are not in any sense of the word burnt ends. Corn bread was burnt, brisket was flavorless and the fat wasn’t rendered out like brisket is supposed to be. This may be BBQ but it is not what you expect with the names of the dishes. I can not stress how much you should avoid this restaurant.

The pulled pork burrito is good, the sides are seasoned well but lack a little variety (I suspect they are seasoned with the same stuff) I tried the pork ribs and had a huge issue with them, we ordered on a Friday afternoon and got a batch of reheated old ribs. I got sick from said ribs because after a bite or two they tasted like spoiled old reheated ribs!

I ordered a lunch from Tony G’s through Peach. It was the jerk chicken plate. The chicken thigh lacked any taste and seemed like it was boiled in water rather than cooked in an oven. There was hardly any jerk rub on it. The baked beans were watery and had a bitter flavor to them. I’ve had better out of a can. The cornbread was bland and a bit dry. The only good thing about this plate was the Mac & Cheese which was very good. I’d give this 1.5 stars due to the Mac & Cheese but overall the meal was bad.

Worst BBQ I have EVER had. They cannot call this BBQ. I will not allow it. I so wish I had looked at the reviews first before ordering because I am obviously not the only one who has been bamboozled. I ordered the beef rib with collard greens and cornbread. I could not cut into the beef rib. Literally. I was finally able to saw a tiny piece off to at least try and it tasted like the worst overcooked roast beef that was ever cooked. The collard greens were hard and lacked any flavor except too much salt. I honestly didn’t even try the cornbread because it was so dry to touch. I ordered through Grubhub and they reached out to the restaurant who refused to give me a refund. I was offered a discount code by Grubhub but I told them that was not good enough. I have been on an online chat as well as on hold with Grubhub for about 40 minutes at the of this review. I have asked the customer support person on the online chat several times over the course of the last 15 minutes to give me an update but she has yet to respond back to even let me know she is there. If I get any other resolution from Grubhub I will update.

At first I thought this was the worst barbecue I have ever had my life. But now as I sit here and think about it, it is the worst food I’ve ever had in my life. Everything was disgusting. I tried the burnt ends, 1/4 chicken, sausage, pork ribs, beans, Macaroni and cheese and the cornbread. I could only take a bite of each and then I literally threw everything away except the cornbread. The corn bread isn’t that remarkable but it is so much better than anything else that came.

Service was good. Unfortunately the food was pretty awful. The brisket was almost like eating jerky it was so dry. Ribs were not much better. Honestly, a good BBQ spot so close by would have been amazing. Guess I’ll continue having to drive out to Blue Ribbon.

Came here one evening to grab some BBQ with a friend and ran into similar issues than the ones mentioned in Matt C’s. review.
Tony G’s BBQ is located in the former spot which used to be held by Gustazo before it moved to Waltham earlier this year. The place is small and the decor pretty basic. There’s nothing that screams BBQ in there except for their menu.
I went with some burnt ends and some cornbread and placed the order to go. My buddy got some ribs and they rang us up separately, asking for both of our names even though we were the only ones there.
We waited a few minutes and our food was eventually ready and packed up in some styrofoam containers. The guy called out our names which I found ridiculous considering that we were – again – the only ones there but we happily moved on and went home.
My burnt ends were the dryest burnt ends I’ve ever had. There was a hint of BBQ in the finish but they just weren’t very good, and especially not for $15 (for a pint). I ate maybe a third of it at most and moved onto the corn bread which was pretty good. Nothing crazy.
This modest establishment could be so much better, which is a shame. There’s little competition in the Belmont/Watertown/Waltham area and they could make a killing but their food isn’t good enough. I did try one of my friends ribs and they were okay but again nothing great.
I would be hard pressed to try it again at some point but maybe I’ll give them another shot at some point in hopes that they were their kinks out with both their food and customer service.
