Been to this place off and on since before the pandemic. Not sure if they changed ownership, but the place seems different. I didn’t see the usual workers as before.
The portion sizes are big. However the food flavors are just average. The prices did go up a bit.
Overall a 3 star place.

Great Chinese comfort food from this side of the bay.
Parking can be tough.
Char Siu (BBQ pork) – good flavor but on the tough side. It would be perfect if it is a little tender.
Roast Duck – dined in so skin of the duck was crispy and tasty. But the meat itself was on the bland side. You need to dunk it into the sauce that came with it but the sauce was just so so, diluted?
Fried noodles – crispily good
Bitter melon w/ chicken- yummy and generous portion.
Braised tofu – the tofu was either over fried or not fried in fresh oil or just not fresh- not recommended
Desserts:
Black sesame paste – yummy
Would definitely return to try other dishes.

Homey, Chinese comfort food. Service staff are friendly. Can order to go. Great roast duck (juicy and succulent) and BBQ Pork (char sui). They make their own won ton (good portion of minced pork to shrimp). Can buy to go. Expansive rice plates, including bitter melon. Nice to hear Cantonese in the background as you eat. Kid Friendly (high chairs) and Disability friendly (blue parking space at the front door) and a wheelchair ♿️ friendly table. Great alternative to not to drive to Oakland or SF Chinatowns.

I called to order food this evening at 5:00 pm, the order was stirred fry bitters melon and chicken. Because of my stomach issues I mentioned that no spicy, the lady didn’t respond the request, then I mentioned again and again about 5 – 6 times of the request in Cantonese.
However, they still gave me the spicy ️ stir fry chicken and bitter melon.
Very bad service, so disappointed, ☹️ I wish I could give them 0 star. I hope the owner will follow up.

Great value if you like traditional Chinese food, not the Americanized versions. Some things are changing, cleanup, remodel, newer staff. I hope the food does not change or that they raise prices. Sit down food at fast food service speed.
Update: I returned on Oct. 5, 2018. Place is almost unrecognizable inside (see photos). It is a remodelled in that young millenials, hipster-type style with Asian television programs playing on 2 monitors. So far, food offerings have not changed, thank goodness!! Please don’t change your menu, HK BBQ.

The portion is insanely generous. And the food is delicious. And the price is cheap compared to other chinese food! I love this place

Met my friend for lunch there in Castro Valley. They have the best tomato beef chow mein ever, which is one of our favorite things to eat.

One of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve ever been to. I’d highly recommend this establishment to anyone. I sometimes drive over an hour to eat at this place with my family. With great service and even better food, I can’t think of a better place in the area!
