Absolutely incredible experience. Big city quality, unique Northwest Mediterranean cuisine in quaint downtown Astoria. This is not typical pre-made hummus and gyros, but fantastically delicious meals inspired by areas such as northern Italy and the French Riviera. We’ve been a few times, including AMAZING evenings such as the pre-planned Chef’s Dinner with Andy Catalano. Wow!

Civil is a welcome addition to Astoria’s thriving food scene, and their new space is just delightful to be in—bright and inviting. Melissa and Brett care deeply about the quality of their food and the experience of their guests, and it shows in everything they do. They’re just getting started, and I was already impressed. We enjoyed sitting at the counter with a bottle of wine and sharing several tapas and small plates. We had to resist ordering one of everything on the menu, but the menu is also perfect for those with lighter appetites. Make sure to save room for the incredible desserts! I didn’t this time… but I’ll be back.

I cannot recommend this place enough. We stumbled upon this place while going through downtown Astoria. The food is exquisite and the cocktails are top-notch. The menu is vegetable-forward and allows for a lot of exploration. Dinner at this place was one of the highlights of our Astoria trip.

Such a great addition to Astoria! The owners are so kind and put a lot of thought into their menu. Dishes are always very fresh, in season, and have exciting flavor and texture combinations. It’s mostly small plates, so it’s a great place to meet friends for just a drink and some snacks in the afternoon, but also a wonderful dinner spot. I love how often the menu changes so there’s always something new and exciting to try. I love getting their empanadas for breakfast on Sundays in the busy season, too. So good!

Astoria is lucky to have Civil- whether you live here or or are visiting this is the place to have dinner if you want to treat your taste buds. Brett & Melissa have not only created a delightful restaurant but have created an experience. You will enjoy tapas-style small plates at a reasonable price that are as pretty as they are delicious. You really will want to try one of everything but do not skip their home made empanadas with cilantro sauce. Great wine list too. Bravo! Can’t wait to go back.

Civil is such a great restaurant. The owners are genuinely friendly and you can tell a lot of care went into building the menu. Everything feels really well thought out (creative, unique, and intentional) without being overcomplicated.

The space is modern, bright, and clean, which makes it a really nice place to sit and eat. The food tastes amazing, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality and variety of flavors you get.

They serve small plates, which is perfect because you’ll want to try multiple dishes. Definitely a place to bring friends or family and share a bunch of things. We’ll absolutely be coming back.

Fantastic experience at Civil. The menu seems simple at first glance, but this is a clever deception. The humble descriptions belie the decidedly complex and well orchestrated flavor combinations. An otherwise benign dish of beets comes alive here. Everything blends together beautifully with an ideal combination of freshness and flair. What’s more, they actually have an NA beverage menu worth seeking out. Worth every penny.

Glad I finally had a chance to come in! Lovely warm atmosphere with delicious food. Everything is pretty small plates, so it’s a good idea to order a bunch of things. I got the chorizo lollipop, the savory tart, and the mezze platter. The chunk of quince jam really stood out on the chorizo tapas. The tart tonight had onions, snap peas, chevre, and a dollop of an amazing romesco. The star of the mezze platter was the cherries. I have plans to try the whole menu. Will provide updates 🙂

Couldn’t be closer to perfect.
We’ve been here for lunch and dinner multiple times. Every time, the menu is fresh and delightfully creative. Plates are made to be shared, so we always order at least 2 or 3 dishes. This also makes it a wonderful place to visit with friends.
Whether you’re looking for something new or an old favorite, I’m sure you’ll find what you’re looking for.
