The Shack is a fantastic lunch spot if you’re in or around Destin and want good food without the fuss. The vibe is relaxed and coastal, exactly what you want after a morning at the beach or out on the water. It feels local, welcoming, and unpretentious — the kind of place you could easily linger a little longer than planned.
The food is consistently solid and fresh. Whether you go for fried, grilled, or blackened seafood, everything comes out hot, well-seasoned, and generously portioned. The fish and shrimp are standouts, and the classic sides like fries, slaw, and hush puppies round out the meal perfectly. It’s comfort food done right, with Gulf flavor that doesn’t need to be overcomplicated.
One of the best parts is the waterfront setting. Sitting outside, watching boats go by, really adds to the experience and makes it feel like a true Destin lunch stop. Service is friendly and efficient, even when it’s busy, and the staff keeps things moving without making you feel rushed.

We passed by the Shack going to a different place that we found on Google & ended up returning. We chose outdoor seating on the water & ordered the Shack Dip Sampler (4 Dips) & Combo Platter. The food was served fresh & ended up being good choices. I forgot to take a picture of the platter before digging in. The photo shows that it was good! ☺️ Our waitress was friendly & did a great job checking on us. If youre looking for good seafood in FWB, check out the Shack.

Came on a Saturday around 1pm in the off season and got to sit outside right away. Ordered the fried green tomatoes which were amazing! My husband is from the south and has had a lot of fried green tomatoes and he said they were the best he’s ever had. Also got the shack burger… ordered medium rare… also amazing! Pro tip: add an over easy egg on top add the grilled onions.

We came to this place in 2019 and it was so good the food was amazing. But when we came back this year it was very disappointing. This place was different from all the other fried food over priced places but this time it wasn’t so good.
We order peel and eat shirt, the shrimp was hard like an over cooked steak. The grits were very thick and mushy. The redfish was over cooked like it was frozen. The pasta Alfredo sauce was to “floury” and thick and couldn’t eat it. My Bowl was ok and not as good as I remember it. I hope they can fix these issues with the cooking. I don’t know what they are doing differently or if they are frozen food place now. Just sad it wasn’t good as we remember.

Another one of my favorite seafood spots when I’m visiting Fort Walton Beach. The food is always good and the drinks are good as well. The alcoholic beverages lack the actual taste of alcohol. But other than that, it’s a really nice spot. I’ll visit again.
