Born in Old Town Scottsdale in 2015, Mesquite set out to serve bold, fire-grilled Mexican street food that hits different. Cooking fresh meats over real mesquite wood, the flavors took people straight to the streets of Rocky Point, Mexico. When lines wrapped around the block and guests came back day after day, it was clear this wasn’t just a taqueria, it was the start of something big.

These burritos were delicious and full of flavor. The size is perfect for the price. I really like my carne asada/steak to be well-seasoned and taste fresh, and Mesquite did not disappoint. The salsas were amazing too! I usually like a little spice while still being able to taste the food, and the green salsa was the perfect complement to the steak burritos.

I tried this spot recently and ended up going back again not long after, it’s that good. The breakfast burrito is huge in the best way, especially for the price. They don’t skimp on portions or flavor, and you definitely feel like you’re getting your money’s worth. If you’re in the area, it’s absolutely worth checking out.

Breakfast Burrito Taste Test Results are in!
Our 6 person family reviewed breakfast burritos from Torchy’s, Someburros, and Mesquite Fresh Street Mex, all in Gilbert, AZ. We chose these 3 restaurants specifically because we all agreed these are probably the best 3 in the area for breakfast burritos. The burritos we ordered were kept as consistent as possible – standard egg, chorizo, cheese, potato.
Torchy’s won overall but it wasn’t unanimous. Torchy’s is best if you prioritize flavorful, cheesy, moist and lots of egg. They were the most moist as they use refried beans and more cheese and egg. However, Torchy’s had the least traditional Sonoran chorizo and chile flavor.
Someburros wins if you prioritize a stronger more traditional Sonoran chile and chorizo heat. These had the most heat of the 3 but also less egg mixed in but still moist and flavorful. (In-laws say Someburros wins hands down if considering their green chile pork burrito, but that wasn’t part of the test.)
Mesquite Fresh Street Mex wins if you want a great Sonoran chile and chorizo flavor that is more mild, definitely milder than Someburros. It was also the least juicy overall but that is fixed with adding their tasty salsa.

Absolute horrible experience. I purchased 3 steak tacos on flour tortillas. I ended up with a huge chicken chard and it shattered my bottom tooth in the store. Worst pain I have ever felt. Worst headache ever. The manager said he prepared the food that morning & and it must have slipped he said.. Reached out to corporate with bills and pictures with report. With zero response I paid my own dentist bill. Do not eat here, I imagine there will be worse outcome than this. * Update got a response finally after months of emails & calls. Received threats from them…

This place has one of the best taco Tuesday deals around! Buy 2 get 1 free, and then you get free beans a rice! The employees were friendly and the food was good, with a nice variety of fresh toppings you can add to your tacos. Will definitely be stopping here again for more Taco Tuesdays!!

I had an amazing experience at Mesquite! From the moment we walked in, the service was top-notch friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Our server made great recommendations and ensured our meal was perfect from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the sides were just as impressive, with fresh ingredients and vibrant flavors. I am not someone who reviews places often, but this was such an unfortunate experience I had to say something. When my brother and I walked in, the team behind the counter was preparing a large catering order for someone else. As we were standing in line (the only people in line), we also saw the team serving the drive thru customers. We had to wait for 15 minutes and were simply trying to get one chicken burrito. We weren’t told by the staff anything and were simply ignored in line. After the 15 minutes we decided to leave. A simple explanation would have sufficed for why we were ignored. I can’t speak to the food, but I would strongly recommend not ordering here if you are expecting even decent service.

I was not a fan of the mesquite fired; I had Chicken quesadilla. Lots of chicken on it. I would like to see a little more cheese. Husband has a burrito. He liked the very hot sauce. They do have a drive thru if you don’t wish to dine in.

This place has some of the best breakfast burritos around. I always get the steak, add fajita veggies, sour cream and extra cheese. They suggested the new Chipotle sauce today and it put it over the top.

Hands down. THE best grilled chicken & carne asada I’ve had here in AZ! Coming from L.A. I’ve felt AZ mex food had fallen short until… experiencing the mesquite grilled FLAVORFUL carne asada tacos today! Woowwww the mesquite notes come thru in the chargrilled meats so nicely . Highly recommend!
