If you’re looking for a place to eat before a show at the Pabst Theatre put this place on your list. We were a group of 4 and we each tried something different. Everything was excellent! Rum runner cocktails, Spring rolls, Hunan beef, Mongolian beef, garlic chicken and sweet and sour chicken. The owner Robert was our server and he was the nicest guy! He made us feel welcome and told us all about his restaurant. He has been open here for 30 years and no wonder. Great food and friendly staff, we will definitely be back! Thank you Robert!

We arrived after walking around Milwaukee in the cold. Nothing in the area was open since it was 8:30. We walked into an almost empty restaurant and it was a bit eerie. However, shortly one of the cooks came out to greet us and had us sit. Eventually I believe the owner (and older Asian gentleman) came out to greet us and take our order. All my worries were set aside. He was so sweet and funny. He made the ambiance feel welcoming even on a cold empty night. Service was top notch. The food was flavorful. It felt like it was cooked at a home kitchen at someone’s Chinese aunts house. My only gripe is that the plates themselves felt small. In Chicago, the plates come much more full for the price we paid. However, I’d come back just to visit the owner again and eat the delicious crab Rangoon’s.

I ordered through DoorDash here as they had a few BOGO deals, which I love to see. I first started with the crab Rangoons, which were good and BOGO, so I got double the Rangoons! I can’t complain there. I also ordered the dumplings, which I didn’t care much about. I wanted some wonton soup for the cold day, and I was disappointed. There was no flavor at all, and it just tasted like water. The wonton itself in the soup was not that good, either. For entrees, they had fried noodles (like lo mein) BOGO. I got them in beef, and they were delicious. It gave me a couple of days of lunch and dinner leftovers. I wanted to try their chef’s chow fun since I love a good wide noodle, but I wasn’t too impressed. There wasn’t much flavor, and it seemed to lack something. I might enjoy this dish more dining in, but for now, I’m going off of delivery. Lastly, I can’t order takeout without getting fried rice. I got the small shrimp fried rice and had to throw it away. It was so fishy tasting and tasted like salt water. I always get shrimp-fried rice no matter where I go, and I am surprised by how fishy this tasted—honestly disappointed with how it tasted. Overall, the fried noodles and the crab rangoons were the highlights of this meal.

What a great little restaurant. Old man there raised all his children and has worked here for 30 years. Order crab rangoons that were crispy and fresh, and the black bean chicken was equally delicious.

1/20/26 – I ordered 8 individual meals. While we enjoyed the food itself, delivery was 20 minutes late (requested specific delivery time, ordered at 8:52 am same day and they are only 2 blocks away). There were no utensils or napkins included. I believe we were also short two cartons of rice.

The Ma Pow Tofu is my favorite thing to eat. I order it for lunch takeout. Extra spicy with Brown rice. The best thing I have eaten this year. I love it. Go try it.

ICK! I’ve been looking for good Chinese lemon chicken as my favorite restaurant unfortunately took it off their menu, so decided to give this place a try. The lemon sauce was not only not good, but absolutely disgusting! For starters, it wasn’t even yellow. There was no lemon flavor to it whatsoever. It was sickening sweet with an awful after taste of artificial sweetener. It honestly tasted like cough syrup. I was glad I tasted it before I put it on the chicken or it would have been inedible. I ended up eating it plain. No real complaints on the chicken except that it was a very small portion for the price, and I ordered a large portion. Totally not worth it. My search for good Chinese lemon chicken continues…

We absolutely love this restaurant. Amazing and kind staff. We moved away from our favorite Chinese restaurant and have been trying every restaurant in MKE. We finally found China Gourmet and it exceeds our expectations. They use real vegetables and quality ingredients and honor our requests for extra veggies with no charge.

At the strong recommendation of a friend, I had dinner at China Gourmet near the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee. Really tasty and authentic Chinese food which is very reasonably priced. The owner is courteous and enjoyable to speak with. Will definitely come back to dine at China Gourmet again.
