Definitely a spot worth returning to if you’re in the Mira Mesa area.
My wife and my granddaughter both raved about it just as much as I did. We all agreed this was hands down one of the best meals we have shared in a long time, and it felt extra special because we were all enjoying it together. The portions were huge, more than enough to leave us full and still have a huge amount to bring home to enjoy the next day. It was just as delicious when we heated it up. The prices were shockingly reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. It is rare these days to find a place that serves such high quality food while still being very economical, but Golden Chopsticks nailed it.
On top of the food, the people there were absolutely amazing. Friendly, welcoming, and genuinely happy to make sure we had a great experience. I honestly have not had Chinese food this good in over 15 years, back when a close friend of ours owned a restaurant in Portland. This meal brought me right back to those days, and I could not be happier that we found this place.
This was, without a doubt, one of the best Chinese restaurant experiences I have ever had. Between the incredible flavors, the huge portions, the great prices, and the wonderful people, I cannot recommend Golden Chopsticks enough. We will definitely be back, and next time we will be bringing more family and friends to share in this amazing find
We ordered:
Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings
House Special Beef
Orange Chicken
Beef Broccoli
The food came out super quick!
Man, the portions are generous! I thought we’d ordered WAY too much, but between my hubby and 2 sons in their 20’s, we did pretty good and had some to spare.
My favorite: the chicken wings. I think I measure many of the Asian restaurants by their chicken wings these days (haha). First of all, they piled ’em so high, then when I crunched into one … YUM! They’re sooo crunchy and juicy. I could have just eaten these!
The other plates were wonderful as well. I’ll definitely go back.
When I got up to leave and looked around I was shocked – the place was completely filled with large 6+ groups. My back was to the room, so I hadn’t noticed it fill up. Haha. As we walked out I chuckled to myself – I think every table had that gigantic pile of chicken wings as well! Guess we made the right choice.
Yep, I’ll be back ….
I also noticed that the prices listed on the menu didn’t match what I was charged. The total on the receipt was almost 20% higher.
Pork Egg Foo Yong, has no pork to be found in the mixed, full of fried flour, Orange Chicken – sliver of chicken, I can guess deep in flour twice to make it bigger. I’ve been eating here, taking take out orders for years. But today horrible, I spent about $130 something and I just couldn’t eat it. The real cook has probably not shown up today.
They might say, why haven’t you brought it back ? I ordered today to address my craving for Chinese food, and has no time to cook so I ordered, drove and pick it up. Im heading to work now and has no time to bring it back.
One photo attached of The Shrimp Walnut, sauce was on the side. The breading on the shrimp? Not what I remember
I’ve visited nearly every single highly regarded Chinese restaurant serving S&P wings. It’s just something you do when you are a San Diego native and Chinese.
Texture wise these are solid, good crunch etc. The problem is you aren’t licking the outside of the wing, you are taking an actual bite. That’s where it all falls apart. Most of the better wing places will brine or use some sort of rub to get the flavor into the flesh of the wings before they actually get to frying them. Evidenly Golden Chopsticks does not do this. Also this applies to the one in National City (OG).
They look great and present well because they have green onions, chili flakes and garlic but those flavors are only on the surface at best. They hold more moisture and just end up soggy on top. You know what they should have added? Fresh chilis like serrano or jalapeno slices, many of the better places will add those.
No place is perfect but I noticed this place got a lot of random hype. There’s even some Instagram guy shilling for this restaurant over exaggerating every moment.
Royal Mandarin has this place beat and I’m not saying it’s always worth the drive but when it comes to party platters where you are paying premium, take the time to pick better.
Service wise, you came to a Chinese restaurant. If you ain’t at some gentrified restaurant don’t expect much. I say this as somebody who goes to and in the past worked in restaurants.
Honestly these shills got me thinking I should go around and debunk them.
Docked a star because I called and they said they didn’t do take out orders, walk in only (odd). And then my male friend called immediately afterwards and they took his to go order. Rude!
