We came here for lunch one day. The entrance is a bit bizarre and run down, sometimes with Home less people sleeping. But the restaurant itself is mostly night and day compared to that. It was a very cool one mainly due to the appearance resembling an old school American roadside diner. The food itself was pretty OK, the Milkshake and fries were quite nice but the Burgers were not the best. They also had other options such as Pizzas. Overall I’d come back. Especially for the ambiance

Tends to be faded.
The surrounding area has a dirty, decrepit and closed entrance, without a single neon sign. The seats need new foam, but the burger bun is really bad, the kind of milk bread that falls apart in the sauce.
I remember a real apple pie with a crispy crust and cinnamon, now replaced by raw green apple, accompanied by vanilla ice cream.
The music, the songs and the atmosphere in general are still good, as they were twenty years ago when I used to come here to date my wife.
The service is attentive and makes an effort. The tourists on the open-top buses still wave through the window, as always.
I still remember the view over the Marquês de Pombal and the green Parque Eduardo VII, the light, the blue sky, the smells and the Belgian fries.
Hurry up while he’s still alive.

I only got a burger and fries which were both tasty. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was very cool!

We had to search for the entrance because it’s well-hidden. Once inside, we received a friendly welcome, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The food is good, and you won’t leave hungry. The price-quality ratio is good. We will definitely go back.

Beautifully decorated ‘all american’ hamburgeria with affordable, delicious menus.

While the burgers don’t exactly impress for their creativity or size, insteading sticking to a simple, classic formula, The Great American Disaster fulfills it’s premise of being an Old School burger restaurant keeping a tight, well tried roster of dishes (they also serve pizza’s, among other dishes) that rarely disappoint.

It’s a sure-footed experience and a dependable option for a fast food meal that trades in the over-the-top style of many other competitor joints for a simpler, more conservative approach.

The prices are reflective of that and you can reliably eat a simple cheeseburger and a good serving of fries accompanied with sauces for 9,5€.

It’s a solid, affordable restaurant and i definitely reccomend paying them a visit.

We knew about The Great American Disaster when we were leaving Lisbon, few minutes after we took the road so we decided to visit the place next time we were in the city. So this is what we did.

First of all, the restaurant name kinda checks out, according to its location (it’s a disaster to find where to go). Although it’s placed in a very prestigious place (at Marques de Pombal plaza), its entrance is really hidden (this is why we weren’t able to visit the place during our first stay in Lison), making it really difficult to be noticed for those who doesn’t have keen eyes. You have to enter some sort of building lobby, which was empty, with no open stores (it was a Saturday). There was a security guard inside a room (who was playing freecell lol) who helped us and pointed the right direction (which was upstairs).

Although there were a good number of tables, the place was empty, which was good because it meant quick service. It didn’t take long to have our order taken: I ordered a steak with 2 kinds of mustard and my wife ordered a Margherita pizza. We also ordered a portion of fries with cheddar, a vanilla milk shake, a mug of beer and garlic bread.

The pizza was very good, although I can’t help thinking it’s a frozen pizza, like those sold in supermarkets. Again, very good and tasty but clearly not homemade/artesanal so, not worth the price charged. The fries were ok, but I felt a mild flavor on it that resembled fish (I think they used the same oil to fry it). My steak was very large (not thick, just large) and, although it was very tender, it really didn’t feel like an american steak. The mustard sauce was tasty, but not how I imagined it would be. There was nothing special about the garlic bread. It really looked like frozen breads (those we buy at the supermarket) with butter, garlic and oregano. There was also another portion of fries with the steak so I miscalculated it a little bit, having to take away part of our food.

So, if the food wasn’t that good, why the 4-star rating one might be asking. Well, Portugal is known for not having the “most polite” or “most cheerful” table service around Europe (maybe around the world), and in this matter, this place rocked! Both waitresses were extremely cheerful and provided top notch service so this rating only because of them.

Great ambience. The ambience looked like straight out of an Archie comic. Only missing Pope Tate.
About the food- My burger meat tasted a bit stale however the pizza we ordered delivered on the expectations. The Sangria wasn’t great either.
Overall it was a decent experience. But not worth a second visit.

Nice place with good service and friendly staff, fair price and a great view over Marquês do Pombal. I had the Gringo go Home it’s very spicy but I was told by the waiter. Consider this place to visit at the next opportunity.
