Other than that highly recommended place to visit and a must experience.
Service was amazing and the food was stellar. I would say this is my favorite seafood dinner I’ve ever had. As a starter we had the Hamachi. Definitely get the bread because it and the butter it’s served with are amazing. Then we had a couple of scallops, Octopus, Gambas, the mussels and clam combination, calamari strips, soft shell crab, and finished it off with my favorite fish of all, Turbot.
If you love seafood you will remember this restaurant for the rest of your life. Cheers!
I visited with a close friend who had traveled from abroad to see me. I had contacted the restaurant in advance to ask about preparing a surprise plate for her. While that wasn’t possible, they thoughtfully prepared a warm message card at our table instead, which made her very happy! We truly appreciated the gesture!
Upon arrival, we first chose the ingredients and portion sizes, and discussed the cooking methods. After that, we selected drinks to match the dishes at the wine booth before being shown to our table to enjoy the meal.
I found the concept very unique and engaging, and the entire experience was truly enjoyable.
I will definitely back again! Thank you for such a wonderful evening filled with excellent food and attentive service!
This joint is not your ordinary seafood restaurant; it’s a full-blown theatrical experience, a place where dining becomes performance, and the star of the show is always the freshest catch of the day.
Situated in the lively Jordaan neighborhood, Pesca has carved out a reputation as one of Amsterdam’s most unique and engaging dining destinations, blending creativity, sustainability, and hospitality into an outstanding night to remember.
The moment you step inside, you’re greeted not by a standard menu, but by Pesca’s “Fish Market” display. This vibrant counter showcases the day’s selection of fish and shellfish on ice, sourced responsibly and with seasonality in mind. Staff guide you through the options (hostess will give you detailed instructions) and the fish monger will describe the origins, flavor profiles, and preparation methods for each fish you choose. Instead of simply ordering, you feel like a collaborator in the process, choosing your fish as if you were at a bustling market, before handing it off to their talented kitchen team.
This interactive beginning sets a fun tone: Pesca is playful, immersive, and refreshingly different.
Once you’ve chosen your filets, clams, and oysters, the experience continues at the “Wine Market.”
Here, the same flair applies, as you browse through a carefully curated selection of wines. Staff offer pairings based on your fish choices, ensuring every sip enhances the flavors on the plate.
The sense of engagement is what sets Pesca apart with every decision feeling personal and meaningful, and the staff manage to make it very fun rather than very fussy.
The food itself lives up to the spectacle. The preparations are simple but masterful, allowing the natural freshness of the seafood to shine. King prawns come smoky and rich, with just enough char to contrast their sweetness. Mussels, clams, and oysters are served with finesse, brimming with briny character. Sauces and sides lean Mediterranean, with olive oil, herbs, and seasonal vegetables tying everything together without ever overwhelming the main attraction of the choices of fish you earlier made.
What makes Pesca especially impressive is its commitment to sustainability. The team takes pride in reducing food waste, working with suppliers who prioritize ethical fishing, and ensuring the fish isn’t just a gimmick but a way to connect diners to the story of their food. This thoughtful approach feels authentic, not preachy, and adds depth to the entire experience.
The atmosphere deserves mention too. The restaurant is lively, buzzing with energy. Long communal tables and open layouts encourage conversation, while clever lighting and a relaxed design keep things comfortable.
Pesca is not the cheapest meal in Amsterdam, but it’s worth every euro for the experience it delivers. It’s rare to find a restaurant that combines fun, freshness, sustainability, and excellence without losing sight of hospitality.
The short of it:
You walk in, talk with the hostess, go to the fish market, select your desired fish or clams or lobster (you can ask what the cost will be after selecting everything), then go to the wine market to order a bottle (or your individual drinks as you like), then you wait to be seated. Once seated you are given bread and your fish and can order more if desired.
Fantastic experience: highly recommend!
Good service where staff really lets you choose the seafood, the wine, and serve you with grace.
