The food was pretty disappointing. The wrapper of the cheesesteak eggrolls was so tough, which is frustrating since they are so easy to properly prepare. The filling was way too salty. The linguine I ordered was clumped up, presumably from not being stirred and boiled properly, and ranged between having bits that were mushy and overcooked to having chunks of hard pasta that was undercooked.
The lump crab meat in the pasta was shredded up and had so many little bits of shell inside, which makes me think they don’t use lump meat but rather the ‘special’ picked crab meat that is cheaper and often has bits of the inner shell mixed in. It would have been more accurate for the restaurant to say “little shreds of crab meat with some shell bits” rather than advertising lump meat on the menu.
It’s frustrating to see this level of ineptitude since the restaurant was relatively empty. Young staff members just mulling about chatting with each other and picking up food with their hands while walking around eating out of their hands just felt like I was in a college dorm, not a restaurant. Price was expensive for how lackluster and poorly prepared the food was. Spent about $198 for a table of four. Pasta just needs to be stirred and timed to cook properly and they somehow messed that up.
Cocktails were alright. Between the thumbs in the food, young staff running around eating food
with their hands and immediately serving food to customers afterwards, false descriptions in the menu, and poorly made pasta, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone else, nor would I come here again.
This is probably one of the most negative dining experiences I have had in the Upper Dublin area.

Chef noticed another table with people leaving but dishes from beginning of their dinner still not removed from the table still.
So we went along and ordered beer and dirty martini. Martini came but beer didn’t. Waitress ran to bring it. The water was delivered but no ice. She brought it after I asked. We asked for the bread and dipping oil and you’ll see in a picture…we had a good laugh. Bread was never toasted or crisp and oil we could bath in with nothing in it to make it ‘dipping’…
Our calamari were great as arugula salad but as soon as we started eating it chef’s chicken with vodka sauce pasta came. He sent it back to the warmer and asked staff if they heard of course timing and they said yes. However…
So we enjoyed out appetizers and drinks…
Waiter asked if it is time for our Mail course and it was delivered.
My seafood with scampi…sauce was watery and linguini was 5 min late from being al dente. And there were hair! And I see from other reviews it is common practice here. Yuck! For the price they charge…WOW!
Chef’s vodka pasta was good but chicken! OMG! How can you screw the chicken nowadays to make it up chewable??? It was. Awful! Presentation was good thought with burrata on top.
Profiterole desert was great! Coffee was strong and good.
So for $140 we spent before tips we could have more tasteful food…in many places. Plus making Italian restaurant a sport bar…common! We know we are in USA so name it Italian American…then overcooked pasta wouldn’t be so offensive!
Also when we left we saw the lady at pizza station ate her food and touched pizza in the box while doing it. WHY?
So we left saying GOOD BUY forever. Shape up Lascala! And good luck.
My angel hair pasta with crab had pieces of shell throughout it, which I constantly had to pick out of my mouth—definitely not enjoyable. The chicken parmigiana was just okay, and the kids’ spaghetti and meatball was fine. The two pizzas we ordered were also just average. The Philly cheesesteak egg rolls we tried as a starter were decent, but nothing that stood out.
The highlight of the meal was actually dessert—the tiramisu cake and powdered donuts with chocolate dip were delicious and easily our favorite part of the evening.
Overall, while the service was fine and the atmosphere was nice, the food itself didn’t live up to our expectations or to the LaScala’s name we remembered.
