This is the first time I had been to this restaurant. We went because we were with a family who is celiac, therefore gluten free. The fact that everything on the menu except one item could be made gluten free is amazing. And the food is good. Really good.
It is a bar setting, so minors have to be out by a certain time, but it is still a fun, family friendly atmosphere. And the staff are very helpful, friendly, and personable. If I lived closer, I could see myself going often.

We have heard nothing but good things about this place and we’re so glad we stopped in! They have a ton of gluten free options and a case of gluten free desserts. We had appetizers that were delicious and we will be back soon to try more. Bartender was super friendly too!

We loved this place! Excellent food and classic ambience especially for those people who want a cool atmosphere reminiscent of college days with grown up incredible food options.

We love the Nashville hot chicken bahn mi. Sandwich. Hands down- this is why we return. Ask for extra pickles to make it amazing! And the pimento cheese Mac and cheese!! This is what I dream about.

I brought my parents (80 plus years old) and they loved it as well!

It’s so good- a hidden highlight in Kent for sure..

The ambience is amazing- old school atmosphere. You can play pool when you are finished eating.

The only downside- bar bill and food bill are separate. Pay for drinks at the bar. No worries- it’s worth the little extra inconvenience at this lovely old institution.

I remember when I went to Kent State university- it was an old man’s bar. Now it’s an old man’s bar with really incredible food- when you are my age that is the perfect combination. It’s so cool. Highlight destination just for the fun of it, and REALLY good food! Try it- you will love it! Be prepared for booths with carved out love initials and classic paintings of Venice (hence the name of the bar) on the wall.
Dive bar/fancy food. Can’t get any better! The best bar in Kent (Rays is a close second but u might be in trouble for that remark!)

A hidden gem in Kent. Tried both Mardi Gras and Lenten menus. Both are wonderful.

Don’t forget to order fried green tomatoes, these are the real deal.

Best seasonal beginners anywhere!!!

Food was good especially Lobster roll, chicken Po boy & cheese curds. Family of 4 w/ 2 appetizers, 4 entrees & 4 waters, $105. Waffles little dry & hush puppies needed butter. Friendly Service was good but had to request some things multiple times. we were there on a Friday night though.

My wife has celiac, and it’s so hard to find fried food or food in general sometimes when she’s tired of the basics and tacos 3 times a week… We smashed through a couple things on the menu and even I loved it. Can’t wait to take her back, worth the drive from Akron!

What happens when there are more than a few things you want from a menu? Just order them all and hope for the best. And order them we did at Chef Jeff Crowe at Erie St. Kitchen in Kent Ohio. We ordered, in no particular order, Lobster Roll, Deviled-Eggs, Gumbo, Jambalaya, Goat Cheese Balls Cajun Cheese Curds. With a. Side of Cardiologist. . All of it was elevated from “bar food” by the care that Chef Jeff and his staff put into the prep. Located in the historic Venice Cafe in Kent. This should be a “must try” on your destination food trips.

I’ve been gluten free for 20 years and I was so excited to have a place to eat that almost the whole menu was gluten free! I had fried cheese curds to share at the table, the gf lobster roll, and gf hush puppies. Everything was seasoned perfectly and delicious! What a gem!

Very good southern style food! The Jambalaya was excellent! Tons of gluten free options. Amazing desserts. A somewhat casual setting inside a bar, but the food was great! Fried green tomatoes are so good. Worth the trip!
