I would definitely come back. The food and happy hour were amazing—great value and full of flavor—but Joly is the real reason to return. She was incredibly knowledgeable, recommended special dishes we ended up loving, and checked on us throughout the meal to make sure everything was perfect. Her hospitality truly made the experience exceptional.

We had such a wonderful experience at The Mermaid Inn in Chelsea! Even though we arrived late for our reservation, the team went above and beyond to accommodate us right before the kitchen closed. Kristen, the restaurant manager, did an incredible job keeping the floor running smoothly while still making us feel genuinely welcome. Our server, Sue, was incredibly sweet and attentive — she never made us feel rushed and took her time to make sure we had everything we needed.
The food was delicious, the service was thoughtful, and the overall atmosphere made the evening truly memorable. We left with full hearts (and stomachs!) and couldn’t be more grateful for how kind and professional the staff were. Highly, highly recommended — this place really knows how to take care of their guests.
Hands down the best seafood in the city!

A beloved seafood destination that feels like a New England fishing village, fresh, high-quality seafood, lively yet comfortable atmosphere, and excellent service. Key highlights their generous happy hour with discounted oysters and cocktails and a popular lobster roll.

Perfectly cooked cod with a crispy skin and buttery finish. Great happy hour menu for food and drinks. Nice seafood selection. I would definitely return to try other menu options. Attentive staff. Clean restaurant with an elevated nautical motif.

The Mermaid Inn in Chelsea is an exceptional destination for anyone craving fresh and delectable seafood. As soon as you step inside, you’re transported to a charming seaside atmosphere reminiscent of San Francisco, all while being situated in the heart of New York City. The ambiance of the restaurant is lively and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a casual meal or special occasion.
The dining area is spacious, so while making a reservation is recommended to secure your preferred time, it’s often not essential. The staff is attentive and delivers service with remarkable speed, ensuring that your experience is both enjoyable and efficient.
When it comes to the menu, the standout items are truly unforgettable. The lobster roll is a must-try—a generous portion of succulent lobster meat nestled in a perfectly toasted roll, seasoned just right. The tacos are equally impressive, featuring fresh ingredients that create a wonderful burst of flavor in every bite. On the day of my visit, the chef’s special was exceptional, showcasing seasonal produce and expertly cooked seafood that delighted the palate.
To cap off the wonderful meal, be sure to indulge in dessert, which, delightfully, is often on the house. Whether it’s a rich chocolate cake or a refreshing sorbet, it’s the perfect sweet ending to an already fantastic dining experience.

If I could give Mermaid more than 5 stars, I would. I came here for a solo date, and when I tell you I was not ignored by the servers, the feeling was amazing. Shout out to Milton! I only had the happy hour menu since I was in a rush. I ate the oysters, clams, and calamari. I had from the bar the margarita and a glass of Montipulciano. Everything arrived at the table quickly, and their follow-up game on asking if you needed anything else is on point. It’s perfect if you are by yourself or on a date because the music isn’t crazy so you can hold a conversation. Will be back and bringing friends!!

Service was overly exceptional. Staff was really attentive and very kind like to an impressive degree. Atmosphere is very vibey and nice.
Unfortunately the food feels overpriced for what it is and it lacked in any real flavor. I’ve had way better seafood/appetizers for less. The happy hour oysters were nice though!

Went for happy hour oysters and beer and was not disappointed. The oysters tasted great and the tap beer was really fresh. I could tell the beer lines were very clean (I am very particular about this and have had issues with one of their sister restaurants in NYC). Everything was perfect including the service.

Spent our 1st Anniversary having brunch & the service was great. They gave each a small glass of Prosecco to start. Food was great. Recommend the fish tacos & Lobster Roll with warm butter. Champagne was great & they didn’t over charge.
