Walking in you’re hit with that musty smell from being in a very old building in old downtown Bellevue. Small dining area but it wasn’t packed so my family of 5 was ok. The fried chicken was very good, crispy skin and juicy meat. Mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese and red beans and rice were all delicious as well. The thing that really drove down my review score is I sat facing the kitchen right next to the service counter and noticed the cook, the young server boy and the tall older Caucasian man looking very concerningly at something in the counter behind the service window. I overheard the tall older guy ask “is it edible?” Not what you want to hear at a restaurant at all!!!! The cook looked hesitant but they sent the food out anyway and guess what, it was our chicken gizzards, ugh! Not sure if they were old or what but they were horrible. I wanted to complain and report what I witnessed and overheard but my wife insisted I don’t make a scene so we just sent them back. Overall food was good, restaurant needs cleaned, waitress was kind and attentive. I probably will not go back but wouldn’t either recommend it nor tell anyone to avoid it, I’ll let you come to your own conclusions.

Looking for Fried Chicken before heading home I came across Shug’s.
I got the two piece with two sides and my wife got the same with different sides.
I ordered the yams. They were perfect, soft with the brown sugar flavor smackingbthe taste buds.
The Red Beans and Rice is Fire. It brings a little heat. I didn’t find any andouille sausage in mine, but the flavor and the rice was perfect. Solid Red Beans and Rice.
The Chicken Breast and Leg. The breading was so perfect. One of the best fried chicken I have had, crispy and juicy inside. The chicken was amazing.
I would definitely return. Loved the old R&B while waiting.
I would return, but I don’t know if I would get the same or something different because everything was perfect and delicious. Satisfying Southern Comfort Food that sends your taste buds to flavor town.

We stumbled on the most amazing spot in Omaha, Nebraska and it was exactly what we needed and then some.
We split the gizzards to start, I went with Baby Jay’s 2 piece fried chicken with mac n’ cheese and greens, and the hubs had the catfish with greens and red beans & rice.
Washed it all down with watermelon tea and pink lemonade.
The ladies up front and the fellas in the kitchen knocked it out of the park. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve never had greens that tender in my life. I would give this place 10 stars if it would let me. We’re from Arizona so I pray you all keep coming here and keep them in business so we can visit when we come back in a few years.

We drove from Kearney to eat some good food and came across this gem! The food is soo delicious! I got the fried chicken, seasoned handcut fries, and my favorite red beans and rice!!! My partner got the fried shrimp po boy! The food is EXACTLY what you would expect from a restaurant describing it’s self as comfort food! Although we both forgot to get some cornbread, next time though! I left sooo full because I just could quit eating!
I had two glasses of the BEST sweet tea I’ve ever had!
I loved the music coming from the kitchen and the relaxed vibes from the crew! It really felt like some family friend was cooking for us!
As two queer women I honestly feel uncomfortable in most places but THIS place felt soo cozy and warm! We made sure to show our appreciation especially in this political climate, and I’ll be telling everyone I know to come give this place their money and support this beautiful small black owned business!

Energy and atmosphere was 50/10. Extremely kind and helpful. HIGHLY recommend the watermelon tea. SOOOO GOOD. I wish I could have it every day. We got a few entrees and all were very good

Holy goodness.. this place is a goldmine! The homey feel, the kind staff, the OUTSTANDING FOOD! I can’t believe it’s taken us this long to try this restaurant but we’ll be regulars from now on!
The kool-aid and the pink lemonade was fantastic. The catfish fillet I got with green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy was heaven (I could literally eat a bucket of those mashed potatoes ). The catfish was cooked perfectly with a light and crispy batter that was seasoned perfectly. Hubby got the fried chicken with candied yams and collard greens and the flavors were incredible we loved everything we tried and cannot wait to come back and try more options!

My wife got the catfish fillet with green beans and candied yams. I got the double pork chop, one fried, and the other smothered. Red beans and rice, as well as mashed potatoes for my sides.
The smothered pork chop was definitely my favorite, so full of flavor. The catfish was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The only negative thing I’d bring attention to was that the waitress never refilled our drinks. The food was good enough to overlook it though. We will definitely be back. If you haven’t tried this place, you owe it to yourself to check it out!

Came here had to wait an hour for my food only to have my fish over cook literally crisping off, had to send it back, they had an attitude , left my sides at the table but took my fork, I had to wait for another 15 to 20 minutes for piece of fish to be cooked, just to eat with cold sides. My fish had grease from the fryer all over my plate. I always wanted to try this spot cause of the ratings but yeah I’m not convinced.
