The Maitre’D was very nice. Waitstaff service excellent!
We look forward to coming back the next time we are in the area!
Update. Returned again & another excellent meal. Started with friendly, knowledgeable, attentive service from Mia. Had organic tomato salad, mushroom app to start. Entree’s were salmon, crabby scallops, & venison on special. Dessert was blueberry raspberry tart. Ella’s is at top of our list when vacationing in Westerly RI
“Walk in my shoes” is a familiar saying, and operating a restaurant in the hospitality industry is a unique path. I operate a casual gastro tavern-bistro in Warwick, RI, and whether running a casual or fine dining establishment, I’ve learned that guests can be demanding, sometimes impatient, rude, and downright cruel. Compassion and understanding are typically not the response received when a special celebration faces a stumble. I’ve heard “You ruined my Christmas Eve!” or “You ruined my birthday!” Nothing could fix it. “Why is my meal not coming?” they demand—but not actually wanting an answer.
So when I made reservations for Christmas Eve dinner at Ella’s in November, I came with the perspective of someone who knows both sides of the equation.
We received a warm welcome and were attended by a sweet, wonderful server who took our complete dining order, including entrées, all at once. After about half an hour, our server—clearly attuned to her tables being off their usual service rhythm—informed us that she had checked on our next course and it was coming shortly.
Shortly after, we were alerted that our ticket had been lost. The pork chop I’d ordered is thick-cut and, as I know from experience, needs about 26 minutes to cook. The other meals required far less time. The gracious proprietor expressed genuine care and offered to prepare the ladies’ meals immediately while providing me with an interlude dish. I appreciated the gesture but suggested the ladies enjoy their meals first while I waited—I knew I would be all the more appreciative of my meal when it arrived.
I was not disappointed. My pork chop was outstandingly presented with brûléed figs and perfect sides.
This is a lesson in how to provide hospitality in the face of challenges, and how guests should behave with respect for proprietors and the difficulties that affect our business—the love and care they pour into their work. I appreciated the complimentary chocolate cake and carrot cake, and we had a lovely stroll through Westerly, ending up at midnight mass at Christ Church. It was a magical night, and my Christmas was not ruined. It was simply more appreciated.
Thank you to Ella’s for a delightful meal and a quiet, relaxing establishment. I wish them all the best and can’t wait to return. Kudos to the staff.
No one’s perfect. Even our guests.
Be kind as we walk through the path of life. Michael
I can’t say enough good things about Ella’s. From the moment we walked in, the service was absolutely flawless — warm, attentive, and genuinely caring without ever feeling over the top. You can tell the team here takes real pride in what they do.
And the food… wow. Every dish that came out was perfection — beautifully plated, balanced, and bursting with flavor. You can tell everything is made with high-quality ingredients and real attention to detail. It’s one of those meals where every bite makes you pause for a second just to appreciate it.
What really stood out, though, was the overall experience. It’s rare to find a place that nails both food and hospitality at this level. Ella’s has that special combination of heart, creativity, and consistency that keeps you thinking about it long after you leave.
