Be ware, this place up charges you without warning and has a hefty tax on prepared food and charges for water. All in all we were up charges, taxed and charged for water $20 + for a simple meal of two sandwiches. Notice the highlighted menu item has no price behind it. Even after asking the wait staff if it was an upcharge they said no but still up charges me. When I asked about this, they said there is no manager on sight and would prefer not to call him because he’s not a very nice man. Yes we agree. Anyone that puts this on their menu without being abundantly clear about how much it costs is not a nice person. As well. Someone that charges $3 for a $0.30 bottle of water is also not nice. We also found it egregious that when we asked for a substitution of a side salad for the fries we were charged the full price of a side salad minus the fries. So we actually got less food than what the menu says we should get and paid $7.50 more. The sad thing is we really enjoyed the food. Thought it was cooked really well. It tasted fresh, but after being charged 20 extra dollars for various fees and up charges, we felt the need to warn other people who may be coming to this establishment. Good luck because even when you ask appropriate questions you may or may not get the right answer. As well, we love it when you come into an empty restaurant and they tell you to sit at a two-tot. Not very welcoming.

Super friendly, awesome food, great service. Best fried oysters I’ve ever had. Really liked the crab stuffed mushrooms too. Velvet sauce is tasty. Can’t wait to have the homemade bread pudding later.

The Black Velvet is the best restaurant for a wide selection of great food and service down in the Venice area! The 2 restaurants near the marinas do not have the variety that the Black Velvet offers. Service and taste were great!!!

Not many choices in the lower peninsula of Louisiana. So heard of a place Black Velvet. It was a simple menu, with expensive prices. We went 2x, & both times you are initially fussed over and made sure all your needs are met. After that, you can hang up getting a refill of soda, beer, napkin, or ketchup. I had to wave them down with a beer bottle in my hand to get ANYONES attention. My husband was happy with his 1/2 & 1/2 Seafood platter. I had the Seafood stuffed baked potato. Those two tings should never go together. It was over stuffed with shrimp, & normally that would be a great thing, but this was precooked Walmart shrimp cocktail. I would had preferred what the hubby got. That shrimp looked more appealing. Either way, if your hard up and need to a place to eat and don’t require attention and have funds to waste. Drop on in.
