Went here for the first time on 2/09/2026 after visiting my specialist at Memorial Health. The waitress was very kind, this review IS NOT about the waitress. It’s about the food and the manager that was on duty that day.
We ordered an appetizer of the Crab Meat Wontons ($5 for 4) The Special Combo Plate w/ General Chicken (spicy) which came with fried rice and an egg roll ($14)
– The Crabmeat Wontons (4) didn’t have any visible crabmeat, or even the flavor of crabmeat. They were basically just cream cheese.
– The Special Combo Plate chicken was very dry and over cooked, it was basically over fried breading that was hollow inside (picture included) also the “fried rice” was soggy and there were no visible veggies besides one tiny piece of onion.
It was me and my daughter, we were sharing the food and as you can see there was only a couple pieces of chicken and a couple scoops of the rice taken from the main plate.
The chicken was very rubbery and over fried making it very hard to eat, I had to use a knife to cut into it.
We brought our concerns to the waitresses attention and she went and got who I am assuming was either the manager or owner, who within the first sentence was arguing with us saying “we were wrong, because this is how it is cooked there” we told her we weren’t going to be able to eat it, and asked for it to be taken off our bill. She proceeded to say, they won’t take it off the bill but they would only give a discount if we order another meal
We were not interested in anything else from the menu, so we asked if they could at least give us a discount because we weren’t going to eat it or take it with us. (As you can see from the first picture, we barely ate any of the food, we cut one piece of chicken and the other half of it is still on the fork in the picture)
The waitress brought our bill and it was still full price. So we brought it to her attention there wasn’t a discount, then that’s when the manager chimed in and said “WE WILL ONLY DO 30% OFF”
So we just said fine, gave up and that was the end of it.
We were very unsatisfied with the food and service from the manager, but the waitress was great.

I didn’t think you could go wrong with a Chinese restaurant for some good food but I was proven wrong with this one. I’m surprised this place even has more than a 3 star rating. I ordered the General chicken and was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. I couldn’t even eat the chicken its was VERY HARD. The owner came to our table after I requested it taken off the bill and said you ordered it thinking it would be like other places but we make our general crispy. I have nothing against crispy chicken but this chicken was not fit for consumption. It was hallow inside and not to mention burnt the inside of my mouth very badly. My guess is the pre made the chicken and put it back in the fryer resulting in extremely overcooked chicken at the end the owner only gave us 30% off of the meal when as you can see in the photo we took one bite out of it and that’s it. No how you treat customers. Serve good food and I wouldn’t have had a problem with giving my money. On the other hand the waitress was really nice and she received her earned tip

Large open dining area. Server was friendly and helpful. Crab Rangoon and fried dumplings were both very fresh and tasty. Entrees were generous in size and tasted great. Prices reasonable. This restaurant has quickly become our favorite in the area. Parking in back in large lot.

I had a very pleasant dining experience at Fortune House. The food was made to order and was a step above most Chinese-American food. The restaurant has been a staple in downtown Owosso for good reason. The interior of the restaurant felt very nostalgic and comforting in the best way. I was pleased to see that the vintage and timeless interiors were taken care of which adds to the overall uniqueness and charm of this establishment.

Food was pretty good. Service was middle of the road, as it seemed like there was only one person working. Atmosphere decent, but bathrooms are gross. Do not sit at a table near the bathrooms, because it stinks.

Great service, awesome style, feels good to got there. If you go there and ask for beef and broccoli, I cant prove it but I think they do some magic because that stuff is ART. Great place you go if you’ve got time to kill, or stomach to fill. See what I did there?

Great atmosphere (in a traditional sense, not the trendy “Chang’s” style) and a wide selection of menu items served in plentiful portions. Nearly everything can be made gluten free – just ask your server. The spicy meals definitely have a kick, but with three levels of heat you should be able to set the dial to your liking. Very strict about disallowing substitutions. Overall, unfortunately, the taste here was just not to our liking.
