Excellent stop for lunch with great service and the food was hot and delicious! We each had a lunch special. Hubs had chicken pot pie and I had the breaded pork which was so tender. Everything was seasoned perfectly!

The catfish was delicious and cooked perfectly, lightly crispy tender and flavorful, the onion rings were fantastic, lightly crispy tender, didn’t fall apart, different yet delicious flavors and melted in your mouth, side dishes were ok nothing to write home about, prices acceptable for quality of food, service was friendly, not great not bad either, basically good, you will need to time it just right as it has short hours their open and parking fills fast, local favorite among the community, family owned which is nice, would recommend and definitely planning going back at least for those onion rings only second to the onion rings down in South Carolina bbq restaurant

Update: My husband and I had breakfast at the newer location in Nov. 2025. The food was fabulous. We had the traditional breakfast with eggs, bacon, pancakes. Service was good and we really enjoyed it.
This is the place to go for Southern Illinois hospitality, comfort food, and a little history.
The catfish sandwich was very good. Crisp batter and tender white on the inside. The lemonade was also very good!
Well worth the trip to Mt Carmel. Be sure to check the times they are open.
