We come here a lot when at camp. The food is always good. The steak and eggs are particularly good. The staff is friendly. Coffee is good enough. The place is clean and the food has been consistently good over the years. If you’re visiting the area. It is a necessity to stop and check out the food.

I like visiting restaurants where you can see community happening. I was staying with a friend for the weekend and I was told this is where we have to go after church. The charm of the small town eatery is present before you even step through the door. I saw customers holding the door for one another, greeting one another, teasing as they entered the sanctuary after their church service on a Sunday afternoon. It was obvious people didn’t just eat here, they interacted on a personal level. I generally skip the chains when traveling and this is why. The food was good, the prices were fair, the service was friendly, but I love seeing community on a deeper level. The waitresses knew their regulars, treated them more like family than customers but were quick to welcome an out of towner as well. If I’m ever in the area again I will definitely be returning to Coal Oil Johnny’s. If I could pack a restaurant up and take it with me I would, but then Pleasantville would be a little less pleasant. This place is a must for anyone that appreciates the spirit of a small town.

Went on a Sunday . The food was good and the prices were great. They close at 2 pm. Breakfast served all day. Seating is a little tight if you have an older person with a walker. But I would highly recommend it for the food.
