I was surprised to be seated at a high top in the bar area as a reservation. We had a latecomer so we started with drinks which I will say are the reason I gave two stars – kudos to the bartender.
We ordered from the prix fixe menu and everything went downhill from there. Our salads came out before our starters. The crab cakes were just okay and escargot wasn’t bad, but also not great – my friend’s crab cakes were taken before she was finished with them as she went to the restroom. Once the table was cleared there was a very long gap between the first two courses and the main. All but one got steak and we all regretted not getting the poulet (other reason for redeeming two star because it was a very good plate). The pictures show what came out for medium rare and medium well steak frites… at this point we had been sitting for 1.5 hours and didn’t want to send to the back to elongate the stay. The dessert was a cold crème brûlée with a pretty soft top. Overall, will not be coming back and it’s a shame because I do like French food.
The waiter was prompt and friendly and special requests were adhered to.
I had the burger and it was great! Although I’d requested it to be cooked thoroughly/no pink inside, it was nonetheless very juicy. Basically greasy but in a good way. Fries also very good – nice and crispy.
Definitely recommend!
There were 2 of us and we both ordered the same thing, the breakfast sandwich. It took about 30 min from when we were seated until we got our food and the place was maybe half full. The portion size was generous and the potatoes were delicious!!! I enjoyed my sandwich but after a few bites my boyfriend’s bun started falling apart and got messier to finish eating when compared to mine. We noticed that mine was very nicely toasted while his didn’t have much of a toast on it.
We’re glad our credit covered the whole meal but even with it being free, I wouldn’t come back if I wanted a quick breakfast option.
Nice chill lighting and modern beats were a welcome combination, but on the downside lots of very loud people made it seem more like a bar than a higher end restaurant.
Also was a tad disappointed with service. I had to wait a while to be seated and then more so just to get my order. This would be completely fine when the place is full but not when it’s 80% empty.
The server was kind and friendly, provided good recommendations but unlike other similar restaurants, no one checked if I needed anything else, expect one time only.
I just can’t get past, how you can serve a $21 cheese plate with no depth. A couple slices of Brie, few chunks of cheddar, thin apple slices, dried cranberries, and some walnuts with raw sugar ain’t it. If you’re going to create a great restaurant, you’re going to miss the mark keeping that dish on your menu. Other than that, Bandol had some really great food!
