Good South Indian food. Nothing to write home about. Presentation was unique but that doesn’t whet the appetite.

What surprised me we ordered a lunch thali and papad on the warm rice and be as soggy. It’s quite surprising that the common sense, that papad placed on a warm rice bowl and puri on top of it will become soggy, didn’t prevail here.

We went for lunch on a weekday but they didn’t disappoint one bit. We ordered ghee karam thatte idly, benne veg kheema dosa and thali. The food came fast. Quality was outstanding and taste of each and every dish was out of this world. We got a chutney tower with 6-7 kinds of chutneys and each one tasted very good. The staff was very attentive and friendly.
The ambience was great.
Overall, thoroughly impressed with every aspect of this restaurant. Highly recommend!!

The Pachi Mirchi Mushroom starter is an absolute standout — vibrant, spicy, and wildly tasty, leaving you eager for the next bite. The Gongura Muddapappu Annam is rich, aromatic, and deeply satisfying — a beautiful expression of authentic South Indian flavors that lingers long after the meal. These dishes (and so many others on the menu) show off the chef’s care and creativity at every turn.

We visited simply south McKinney on Sunday for dinner. We waited for about 10-15 mins before we were seated. Ambience is very good especially the main hall, the other hall was small and mainly for small parties or bigger group. I felt lighting there could be better. Service was great, took our orders and was served quick. Hot a chutney tower which was not clean. Ordered davangere benne dosa, tatte idli, raxa dosa and veg kadai. Tatte idli and rava dosa was good. Davangere benne was under cooked and was missing potato stuffing. Veg kadai had no veggies except bell peppers and paneer. Overall food wasn’t impressive at all.
One of the staff( cleaners) was on call full time and wasn’t attentive at all. And had to keep asking for napkins and cutleries.

Absolutely loved the experience at Simply South! The ambience is warm and inviting, and the restaurant has a spacious layout that makes dining very comfortable.

They served six different types of chutneys, which was such a treat — each one flavorful and perfectly complementing the dishes. The Rava Dosa was outstanding — crisp, light, and incredibly delicious. The Idli, Pongal, and Vada combo was equally impressive — fresh, authentic, and full of traditional South Indian flavors.

Overall, a fantastic experience with great food and atmosphere. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic South Indian cuisine!

Visited Simply South in McKinney recently and overall had a good experience. The ambience is great and the customer service was genuinely excellent. The staff was polite, attentive, and made us feel very welcome.

That said, I felt the food was not as authentic as I expected. I’ve been to Simply South in Frisco, and honestly the taste and overall food quality there is noticeably better.

One thing I really appreciated: they mentioned an 18% gratuity for parties of 5 or more, and we were 3 adults with 2 small kids. The manager kindly told the staff not to add gratuity, which was very thoughtful and left a great impression on us.

Since they’ve just started in McKinney, I’m hoping they’ll make improvements to the food soon. For now, I’m giving 4 stars for the great service and atmosphere.

Tried the dosa and weekend special meals. The interior is beautiful and feels nostalgic — love the authentic vibe. Flavors were good overall.

But the dosa was way too thin, and the rice in the meals was less and a bit dry. Service was good despite the huge crowds. Plenty of parking, but weekends can easily mean a 30–60 min wait.

I’d go back, but next time I’m definitely asking for a thicker dosa.

Simply South – Authentic & Comforting South Indian Lunch

Had a wonderful lunch at Simply South. The South Indian veg thali was authentic, well-balanced, and reminded me of home-style flavors. The poori was light and perfectly puffed, the sambar and rasam were mildly spiced yet flavorful, and the variety of kootu, poriyal, curd, and sides were all fresh and not oily.

The sambar vadai was excellent — crispy outside, soft inside, and soaked just right without becoming soggy. Desserts like kesari were soft and not overly sweet.

Overall, the food was clean, comforting, and easy on digestion. Great place for a relaxed family lunch if you enjoy authentic South Indian food with balanced flavors. Will definitely visit again.
