Shoyu Sushi is a modern Japanese restaurant on 109 Street in downtown Edmonton.
They have a very diverse menu with a lot of options. Presentation of food is very lovely with a lot of color. The portions are generous. The flavor is good…but I would not put it into the five star category of some other Japanese restaurants in town that are a bit fresher in flavor.
The space is bright and clean.
The service was quite good. Helpful and friendly.

The atmosphere here is laid-back and inviting, making it a great spot to unwind with a tea or saki. The music tonight was a little too upbeat. The sushi is reliably excellent, with a diverse menu offering enough choice to suit different tastes. The service tonight was great, but normally it is slightly above average—it’s not a standout feature.
I always make a point to order the edamame, and today, they were prepared perfectly—warm and just right. The seaweed salad was refreshing and we also enjoyed the Hawaiian roll and some tempura, both of which were flavorful and satisfying.
Having dined here multiple times, I can confidently say that the experience is consistently enjoyable.

We dropped by Shoyu Sushi downtown around 5 PM last Friday. The ambience was just okay, but the service was friendly and pretty efficient.
The food was tasty overall, though some of the rolls didn’t hold together very well—maybe a bit of an inexperienced hand behind the sushi bar that day. We started with the assorted tempura, and the dipping sauce that came with it was actually a standout—really flavorful.
I tried their lychee cocktail, which was delicious and super sweet—probably best as a one-and-done drink.
For the main course, we ordered the Maki & Roll Tray (57 pieces for $78)—a mix of double shrimp roll, salmon mango roll, rainbow roll, California roll, dynamite roll, BC roll, cucumber maki, and salmon maki. It was a solid variety and tasted good, though I wouldn’t say it was the highest quality sushi I’ve had for the price.
All in all, it was a decent experience. Good flavors, fair service, but slightly on the pricey side for what you get.

I’ve eaten here twice now – once at the restaurant and once for takeout. Both times, I had the Chicken Curry Rice, and honestly, it’s the best I’ve had compared to any other places I’ve tried (the curry sauce is amazing, and the fried chicken is so good). The only thing I wasn’t into was the drink I ordered (Lemon King) – it was a little too sour for me. But honestly, the food alone is a total must-try!

The Spicy Ramen was delicious and flavourful. We liked the sushi rolls we got. We will be back to try other rolls without the sauces. The rice and shrimp were quite fresh. Our server was very attentive and very sweet so we were very happy with the service.
