Our Jerk & Gyro restaurant in Lyndhurst, Bergen County New Jersey serves delicious authentic Caribbean Cuisine and Mediterranean Cuisine. Our Jerk Seasoning is in our opinion the best. We put it on our chicken, wings, shrimp, salmon and even our burgers. Our Gyro’s/Yeeros are so delicious. We make chicken, gyro meat, falafel, vegetarian and even shrimp gyro’s. Always fresh and flavorful. Our homemade hummus is something you will fall in love with. We also make our own tzatziki sauce, Jerk Sauce, and hot sauce. First, I ordered the oxtail platter with fries and steamed cabbage. The oxtail was severely lacking in any sort of flavor, and the steamed cabbage was incredibly bland. It might have been among the worst oxtails I’ve ever had, which was shocking given the high rating of the place.
I also got two jerk chicken platters with rice & beans and fried plantains. The jerk chicken was no better. It had no spice or hint of the bold jerk seasoning that defines good jerk chicken. This was among the worst jerk chicken dishes I’ve ever had.
The disappointment continued with the Jamaican beef patties. They were clearly store-bought and not made at the location, lacking the freshness and flavor expected from homemade patties.
The desserts were similarly terrible. The baklava was dry and boxed, lacking any semblance of freshness. The sweets were overtly sweetened, and the carrot cake was pre-packaged and overly sweet.
Overall, this was a terrible experience. I won’t be recommending this place to others, nor will I be returning.
1 Kids jerk sandwhich with fries
6 jerk wings
1 small oxtail with rice and beans /steamed veggies
1 large curry chicken platter with rice and beans /steamed veggies.
The only thing missing was the festival I wanted to try. I only asked for 1 which is likely odd so it wasn’t in the bag.
Everyone enjoyed so it’s worth a second trip.
However if I have to provide one feedback is that the pricing of the meal is not readily accessible to someone having a quick regular meal. A 15 dollars and tax for jerk chicken meal seems little on the pricey side if you ask me. As I am leaving the review I see that there is a promo on the Groupon but not everyone uses Groupon. Lastly when people choose dinner on a regularly, if it’s way above the normal day to day price on a meal, they won’t have it regularly. If more people could taste the quality of the food and not get shy away from 17 a meal. It would be a win win for everyone.
More customers mean faster turn around in food , fresher, and I can have this regularly
