We were in Sanat Fe for a trip and decided to give Escondido a try. It was our 35 anniversary dinner and we wanted to do something a little nicer. We stayed in downtown SF and the restaurant is a bit outside of town but not very far.

We started with the Ahi Tuna Crudo and a cup of the Saffron Corn Bisque. Both were very flavorful and the Ahi Tuna Crudo was full of flavor with very fresh tuna. I ordered the Chile En Nogada, which sems to be their signature dish. The chili was large and not overly spicy with the filling of ground pork & veal not having a ton of flavor but very good. My wife had the Vegetarian Mole Enchiladas, again very full of flavor and the mole sauce wath awesome. We added an order of Black Garlic Mashed Potatoes because they sounded so interesting, they did not disappoint.

We finished with the Tres Leches Churro Bread Pudding which was very interesting and amazing flavor.

The only reason I didn’t give them 4 stars is becuse we flet very rushed. The waiter was back at our table before were even done with our appetizers. While the waiter seemed like a nice guy he also seemed like he just wanted to get our order and get us on our way.

Phenomenal…..absolutely phenomenal. Everything from the service (Moises was our server)with excellent recommendations, prompt service beautiful plating. The food was divine, seriously the best calamari, the barbacoa croquettes gave me cognitive dissonance like What… What???? I now LOVE parsnips puree, yeah incredible but true. The chile ennogada is divine culinary art, the most dazzling presentation and the flavor….the flavors… all the filling ingredients joined in harmony with a succulent silky walnut sauce, a dish for love, for celebrating, for specialness. Beautiful exquisite dining. The desserts, ok if I must let me say the pot de creme rich in chocolate goodness the flan lusciously creamy sweet smoothness with a glossy caramel finish…LITERALLY I fell into a portal of sheer delight. Go to Escondido if you love life and God has been good to you, he has been to me and I was blessed this evening. God bless Chef Ruiz!

P.S. I cook and I love to cook and I KNOW GOOD FOOD

Wonderful meal this evening. Service was top notch!! This restaurant is run very well! Great cozy atmosphere. I had the Pistachio Papi cocktail delicious. We had a few apps at the bar. I planned to get the stuffed poblano or short ribs but after the apps we opted to do a trio of tacos. The pork belly and then the shrimp and carnitas. It didn’t disappoint highly recommended. Menu has a great variety to choose from can’t wait to go again.

I’ve never made it out of Escondido with leftovers, until today. I didn’t think it was possible. My prior dinner experiences there had been so leisurely and relaxing that we stayed, ate and drank to our hearts’ content, finished every bite of Chef Ruiz’s amazing dishes, and enjoyed the delicious cocktails & mocktails that are as tasty & chic as they look.

Today’s visit was for a delightful lunch meeting. Palate pleasing as ever. The daytime atmosphere is just as appetizing as always. It’s cool, it’s calm, and it’s effortlessly transportive.

It’s highly recommended—if you’re into cool vibes, excellent service, incredible food, and surprisingly tasty leftovers!

Big shout out to the entire staff, including the artists, and crews that make the place what it is!

Thanks again, Chef Ruiz, Yesenia, Miguel (& Anne)

@leoperezphotos Casual fine-dining never tasted better – a must visit for outstanding Mexican and SW cuisine. The guacamole was fresh and chunky, could use some more heat, maybe an option for customers? Mole was authentic and the chicken enchiladas were tasty and juicy. Chiles en Nogada are outstanding, generous serving. Chef Fernando is very talented and an inspiring leader – he knows food and knows people!

Hi everyone. My wife took me to this place since she loved the food when she visited with her work mates. It didn’t let us down, the food was awesome but the only thing I noticed that the servers kept dropping silverware everytime they cleared a table. I guess they need to work on changing the round plates since the things slip off easily, or else they need to use a servers tray to busout. Just a suggestion! because it ruins the whole experience of the dinners. I will surely come again cos I loved the ambiance the drinks and the food. Keep up the good work.

Wow! The food was impeccable. I ordered the chili relleno that beat Bobby Flay. It was the best by far that I have ever eaten. My Friend devoured the veggie tacos. Delicious! I enjoyed the bread pudding as well. We were a little disappointed that we were seated right by the door but we survived. Maybe it was the outstanding margaritas that helped us…

Creative menu, inviting atmosphere, and friendly service. Food and drinks were delicious. We went during an off peak hour during the week, so we didn’t have a reservation. It was a late lunch after a long day at meow wolf. Food and drinks were
prepared promptly without losing any flavors. They were also able to accommodate a meal for our son.

Had a lovely dinner here tonight. I’ve been searching for restaurants that did not just serve the typical “New Mexican” dishes but still had some local touches to their creations. This is it! The food hit just right, flavors were fresh, bright and dishes were well- composed. The presentation of each dish was lovely! Great place if you’re in the mood for a fish dish! Quick and attentive service! We came to dinner with our 2 toddlers and everyone was super nice and accommodating. We dined on the patio and the vibes were perfect down to the music and art decor. I don’t give positive reviews like this often but this was well deserved.
