My boyfriend and I stopped in here on a whim. We were going to a shop nearby and they were on break and we were starving. We are both so glad we did. The service was fantastic. The waiter and staff were incredibly kind. Food came quick and it was delicious. I am beyond impressed with this place. The outside (and no offense here) doesn’t look like much…. but sometimes places that have all the “aesthetic” are making up for subpar food… but I digress. It’s not the prettiest place on the outside – but inside the food is delicious, the staff is friendly and helpful – and it’s clean! Also, my boyfriend’s phone was about to die (we’re from out of town and needed his Lyft app) and we were just down the street after leaving a store. So we came back in to ask if they had a charger we could use and if we could sit at the bar. They pulled out a charger and let us hang tight for 15 minutes. This place is the best.

“Stumbled upon this place by accident and so glad I did! Loved the tuna tacos and shrimp gambas al ajillo—the garlic was absolutely on point. The server was kind and recommended the Cadillac margarita, which hit the spot. What a great find!”

Went here before a show at the nearby theater on a Saturday evening. Atmosphere is comfortable and casual, we were allowed to pick our own seats so we sat by the window. Service arrived in good time, but we were not ready to order as we were not in a hurry. Made some drink and appetizer decisions and flagged down service. Drinks were served, my margarita was made with mescal and was good, but no evidence of smoke. Our mistake evidently was to order appetizer and meals together, as one of our meals showed up first. Sent the ropa viejo back not recognizing it as a main course, we found out later when it showed up again and not warm enough. Appetizer was the Cuban Empenadas. Simple and good. The Ogden Brisket Mole was quite good and unusual, and beautifully presented. I would order it again. Not so much the ropa viejo.

I visited this restaurant last week, and I was very pleased. Margaritas and palomas are delicious. The food was outstanding!
I recommend the arepas with chicken and avocado. My friend had the blackened chicken sandwich and also loved it. I am going back next weekend with friend to try more margaritas. The staff was also very welcoming.

I am a regular here now. Please come and enjoy the wonderful menu and friendly staff.
And my new favorite dishes: Seared tuna tostada and avocado toast!
Also, their brunch is incredible!!!
Why wait in the line at another brunch spot in Rogers Park when we have South of the border??!
French toast, crepes, pancakes, and chilaquiles!
There is everything here!
Service was as usual….super friendly!

There is a nice warm and casual atmosphere. The menu has a good amount of options and everything I’ve ordered had a good standard of quality and freshness. There’s a good number of drink options and their margaritas are really delicious. The service is consistent and the staff is very friendly. Great neighborhood spot!

Overall a good experience. It might’ve been our fault for coming in so early so will revise review on next visit but took a while to get food and drinks. The food however more than made up for it and the friendliness from the staff was nice.

We ordered margaritas, and they were delicious. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. We tried the Tampiqueña and the Churrasco, and both were completely unseasoned. The food is not worth it, but I would recommend this place for drinks only.

My friends (4) and I went to this restaurant for Margaritas on Thursday, December 4th around 10:50pm. We sat down and were asked our orders, all of which were alcoholic drinks. Although we are all at or over the age of 21, we were never carded. We move on with our time and are there for about an hour and 20mins. Our bill comes to 122.24 (w/ 20% gratuity and $10.04 tax) and we select the QR code at the top of the receipt to pay. We all select the split 5, pay 1 option. Everyone w me paid 19.55 while I was charged 3 different amounts through Apple Pay (although I did not select this option, the numbers kept jumping and I kept having to repay). We get up to leave and the waiter comes to tell us we have $5 unpaid. My friend takes $5 in cash out and puts it on the table to which the waiter says we now owe more than $5. Confused, my friend asks him to pull up what he is speaking about. With more words than necessary, he tells us that our bill jumps from $5 to $8 to $24 to 48 to $63. We argue with him for 10 or 15 minutes as we all had bank statements and confirmation emails that we paid and when you scan the QR code it said that the bill was paid in full and no other payments can be made. The waiter (Rafa M.) then says he is going to call the police and proceeds to lock the door to the establishment. Bewildered we still try to figure out what is going on as the numbers he is saying keep increasing and do not match what our bank statements say. Once the police arrive, they scan the receipts as well and see that we have already paid and are shown our bank statements/confirmation emails. They sit and try to do the math and the bottom line was that the man was asking for a tip. We had asked why that was what he called the police over and why that was not explained prior to us dining or him calling the police and he says a gratuity is added for tables more than 5. There were only 5 of us at the table, however, so we state that this does not apply. He then says that “well it applies for parties of five now” which does not add up. We are all college students so we were calling our parents and other friends as this was a shocking situation to happen – not to mention three of five of us have been to this business before and have not had any issues. While on the phone with our parents, a friend who had arrived just before the cops came, said that he would pay $50 so we could end the situation. The man (Rafa M.) takes the $50 which was also bewildering because he had been pushing for 30 mins that we owed $63. I’d also like to note that Rafa said that we had a 7 too table when we only ever had a 5 top. None of his math added up, even to the officers, he never carded us while serving alcoholic drinks, and he held us hostage by locking the door – even though we never made any motion towards the door as we were trying to figure out what he was claiming we owed. Additionally, there was one more table after us and he never checked their tab he just unlocked the door for them and let them walk out. This is unacceptable behavior for a business and was very scarring to young college women who had already paid what was owed, even the police admitted that several times.

Stopped in on a random Friday night around 9.45. The guava margaritas and steak taco dinner was delicious! Will be coming back to support local.
