5 stars! Go give them a try!
UPDATE: Ok, we’ve been back a few times and just wanted to say I rolled in a month ago with a big order and I just kept adding stuff. I get home and bacon jalapenos are missing…honestly, I didn’t check and like I said I just kept adding stuff 🙂 I sort of blew it off and figured I’ll roll in next time and mention it. Hour later, credit untion notices says my account has a credit. On their own, they caught it and refunded the item. Wow, that’s top shelf.
Last visit, 16 August, I had the brisket sandwich and honestly I think I would club a bag of baby seals for one of these. Ok, maybe not baby seals, but toy seals that weren’t being used by kids. Seriously, great stuff and of course I had smoked devil egg and jalopeno popper… I’m going to get so fat from this place.
Wow! Ok, BBQ is a personal thing and everyone has different tastes in how they like it, sauces, sides, etc. For me, this is a winner on everything we tried. Growing up in Texas, brisket is king and their brisket is great. I’d love a titch more seasoning on the bark but honestly it was literally the best brisket I’ve had since Texas. I’ve tried a lot of BBQ places in Virginia and Maryland, they are good, just not great. Again, it’s all subjective but for me this will make me come back.
I over ordered because we couldn’t decide what NOT to try…well we got the pulled pork sandwich, dry and moist brisket, jalapeno biscuit, coleslaw, beans, potato salad, mud pie, pickled onions, stuff jalapenos, candied jalapenos, and a dark cherry and root beer soda. I know I know, don’t judge me until you’ve gone, I know I went too far 🙂 In fairness the candied jalapenos were a bonus from David 🙂 See, we had balance.
Everything was fantastic, no regrets except I’ll be napping after this review. We took a bunch home except I killed the pound of brisket without missing a beat. I love their potato salad with the mustard and hint of spicey. Coleslaw is kind of of traditional pulled pork sandwich slaw, I could use a bit more dressing but I just kept eating it because it was good. That jalapeno biscuit/bread is nuts good. Super dense so you’re thinking there’s no way I can eat more than a bite or two…half a biscuit later you’re just adding some butter and you’ll stop listening to your inner voice to stop.
Seriously, this was a great BBQ experience. We’ll be back and the family run aspect makes it even better. We met David (son) and Linda (mom) with dad out on the smoker (sorry, didn’t catch his name) with everyone being super nice. Thanks again, you have a wonderful place!
The owners are so delightful you wish they were either your friends or family. These are really good people who deserve the support of the community not only for the great food, but to encourage young people to open business and stay in Fredericksburg. Their concern for their customers was really touching and showed that incredible Southern charm.
I would highly recommend this restaurant. Just wish they had more tables and chairs. They need a bigger space. All I have to say is Nashville, beware!!!
The ribs were outstanding! Perfectly smoked and tender, with so much of the fat being rendered, but far from being dry. They’re the classic, Texas style dino ribs! That Nashville Hot Smoked Crab Cake Sandwich was very interesting and tasty! Definitely a large, filling sandwich and highly recommended if you see it on the menu. I tried their sausage and it was decent. Their sides were pretty good, with their jalapeño popper being incredible! The bacon had an amazing seasoning and the smoke on them was so nice. Their baked beans were really filling and tasty, loaded with meat and nicely seasoned.
They had several different sauces to choose from, some spicy ones, such as their hot vinegar style. The restaurant’s dining room had about 8 tables in it and got busy pretty quickly around lunch time. Service was excellent and very friendly. We’ll most definitely return!
